I was watching a crew lay sod on a large lot. They actually spread grass seed on the dirt first as well as a bit of fertilizer. I am not sure what the grade of the fertilizer was. Then the sod went on the top of that mixture. Then kept wattering. I don't know if this procedure helped but the sod sure seemed to take good and fast.

i love this thread!! But seriously to minimize the bending you lay it all to overlap the curves and corners then trim after, this lets you have that nice tucked in look and actualy helps hold water. Carpet knife 3 inches out works wicked. roll the top soil (uniform layer) roll the sod (sticks the 2 soils together).

If you ever have to do a repair or utilities a skill saw blade backwards and cut the old first straight. then the bobcat can go in a take the sod and the topsoil out in one pass with a nice straight edge for refinishing!
