high avi mountain conditions. way to much snow in such a short period of time, it's gonna slide be careful. i'd wait till it slides before any climbs or steep slopes.

get your avi training, and learn a few things. very friggin dangerous. don't be the next one, i hear ya can go 95 times in a hundred and have absolutly no problems the other 5 will kill you. is your number up?

i can't believe the guys from red deer going to golden, revy etc. with no avi training and not wanting to get some. WTF is your problem? ya buy $10,000 + machines and can't spend $300 for training. hmm. any of you guys have kids at home?

nov 27 avi training in red deer zac's trac's shheeet i have a $25 off coupon, also available at the sled shops.

Terrain management, snow stability evaluation, environmental factors that effect snow stabilty, rescue techinques, Beacon use, PPE, human factors, to name a few things. IMO you need to take a 2 day course, read a book on the topic, then take the course again. Like many things, the more you learn, the more you realize how little you know. I actually find it quite interesting and enjoy learning about it.

I agree ast 1 is a great course, it gives you the basics and teaches you that you really know nothing about the snow.
First step is to take the course second is to PRACTISE what you learn. Dig pits, look at the snow, and keep up to date with the weather patterns in the areas you ride, it is part of being in the backcountry.

i just took my AST1 course in moosejaw on sat put on by hangfire training and it was excellent. It was a real eye opener to see how little i knew and how lucky i've been. We can spend the money on a new sled but then somehow the extra 2 grand for the gear and training that could save our lives gets out of budget. I just wanna say thnx to the companies spending there time and resources putting on these courses for us in the east so we dont have to "waste" a day riding when we are out west. Its awesome that these companies are taking the time to do this to make it safer for all of us. Once again sending my thnx out to everyone involved for helping make a sport i love safer. Lets all ride to live and live to ride another day.

will work if they have enough snow, was out west of caroline this am, an inch to 2 inches, just enough to bend some expensive parts.

ya need to stay in low risk zones till the layer over the hoar frost slides, which should be soon. just don't be in it.
