Things are not as simple as many think. Right now the Liberals are given the first chance to form the government because they hold the most seats. But as the party in charge they must appoint the house speaker which means they loose one more vote, making it 42 liberal, 41 NDP and 3 for the Green. Yes the Green can force a non-confidence vote right after the throne speed, but something to remember, the Green's as a party right now can not afford an election. Elections are expensive and they have very little to no available cash for another election, and the NDP are not that far behind. But here is the twist, if Clark backs away and allows the NDP to form the Government, then the NDP must appoint a house speaker, making the votes 43 Liberal, 40 NDP and 3 for the Greens which means if everyone shows up for a vote, every vote can be a draw. All the Liberals have to do is wait for 1 opposition to not be available, whether they are sick, missed the fairy, found an envelope of cash under the seat of their car, whatever, and the Liberals can force an election. To go with that all they need is for 1 person to cross the floor and they are back in power.

Basically what this means is if either party wants to form the next government they have to tread very lightly, anything controversial or over the top could topple the government very easily.

Yes they can, but the speaker controls the rules of procedure and is in charge of debates and procedures as well as ruling on disputes. The speaker can make life a living hell of the other parties if they chose to do so. The elected speaker must also accept the position, it is not throw at them.

I find a nice envelope of cash in my bank account every other Friday which is why I continue to vote for the BC liberals.

during the last provincial election my daughter's math teacher spent 1/2 the class time talking about the NDP merits in the school system. Guess what I did……. called the $ucking principal and chewed him out for allowing teachers to use the school as a propaganda tool. Totally unacceptable!

CP NewsAlert: Clark won't quit, will recall house

VICTORIA - British Columbia Premier Christy Clark is not ready to walk away from office, announcing today that she will recall the legislature to see if she can get support to continue governing.

Clark was speaking for the first time since the NDP and Greens announced a deal on Monday to topple the Liberals from power after no party won a majority of seats in a provincial election three weeks ago.
Clark said she plans to bring the house back in early June and made the decision to test the will of the legislature after consulting constitutional experts.
The Liberals won the most seats in the legislature, but fell one seat short of a majority.
The NDP caucus met earlier and the party is expected to ratify the agreement with the Greens before it is released later today.
The agreement would allow the second place NDP to form a minority government with the support of the Green party.
NDP Leader John Horgan spoke briefly to his caucus before it met privately on the agreement, which has already been approved by the Greens.
Horgan says after 16 years in Opposition, the NDP is excited about the prospect of forming the next government.
