Anyone like their 6l ford ?

At one time our company ran all fords 450s and 550s. All the same issues listed above. Now only One left in a fleet of about 10 and it just had the turbo replaced and the motor was done about 6 months ago. Not saying that the Chevs or Dodges are much better. They all have issues.

Big problem with the 6.0 is the EGR cooler, it's an absurdly poor design and eventually will fail, allowing coolant into the motor causing all sorts of problems. Warranty repair will just re & re the same crappy part, only real solution is to swap it out for a better one from some place like Bulletproof Diesel, or delete it entirely. The oil cooler is also a big point of failure, it should be replaced as well but that's a fair bit of work and I think at least $2000 for parts.
Aside from those there doesn't seem to be anything fundamentally wrong with the motor, most of the injector/head/pump & associated failures can be traced back to overheat conditions caused by the EGR & oil cooler problems.

I had an 03 6L ford. I bought it brand new in June 2003. I would never recommend anyone to buy one. I owned it for four years and four months. It needed to be towed 7 times. I will try and list all the issues that I can remember; It went through FICM, Glow Plug control module, turbo, Cd player, front end upper and lower ball joints X2. It left me and my family stranded on the road 4 times. The other three times is was dead in our driveway. One of the many times it was towed to the dealer, the dealer had the truck for 21 days trying to figure out what was wrong with it. During the time I owned it, it was on full warranty and I still had to spend over $11000 on maintenance on that POS. I could not imagine the cost of maintaining one with no warranty left.

Some people on Dieselstop.com were talking about getting buybacks from Ford at the time. So, I phoned Ford Canada and demanded some action. They said they would give me $1000 of the purchase of another ford truck. So what, was I to trade in my ford that was sitting at the Dealership and would not run. I am sure my trade in value would have been great.

I will NEVER buy another Ford as long as I live. What an absolute piece of garbage and Ford would not back their product at all.

I lucked out as I bought my 06 F350 from the states. I had a slight miss so took it to the dealer here in town. They replaced 3 injectors under warranty and said good to go. Drove the truck to the lake for the weekend and on Sunday headed home pulling the boat in 35 C weather. I could smell antifreeze and managed to chug the truck home. To my surprise mechanic forgot hose clamp from reservoir and with the boat pull / hot weather hose blew off. Anyway, this cooked the egr and FORD dealership replaced it under warranty (eventhough local dealership fault to which they admitted by blaming the apprentice mechanic). Drove it for another 3 months but took it back as it was running rough again. Bottom line I got a complete new motor including turbo, oil cooler, injectors etc etc. Total warranty bill was $24,500.00. Truck has been running awesome since. Have 1,000 km left on warranty then I will take it in and remove the egr. I also have a towing chip on it.
