i ride 90 percent mountains, 10 percent ditches and whatnot, as long as jetting and clutching are changed for low elevation riding and there is enough snow for cooling i would imagine that it isnt any harder on the machine IMO

90% of all the sleds up here are mountain sleds. of that maybe 20% have ever seen the mountains.

This winter was the first winter that I've ridden more than a couple kms at home in the flat since we got a fair bit of snow (for around here anyways). Otherwise my sleds slays mountain powder.

1800 miles on my boondocker race gas this year and ALL mountain riding. Just pull the chord and go. Run's absolutely flawless.

Used to be about 50/50 for me. Probably closer to 75 mountain/25 home for the last few. My last sled had 5200km trouble free.

I've rode my sled around home twice this year and none last year. I'm at WOT WAY more often in the mountains. Id say mountain riding is worse for motor longevity than riding at home.

except at WOT thats when the motor receives the most fuel ........even the skidoo 800r shows a hotspot in the midrange.

if you own ANY mountain sled this post applies to you.

crossovers do not apply.

trail sleds do not apply.

DISCUSSION

does low elevation riding effect engine longevity on a snowmobile designed for high elevation running and riding style?

examples.

clutching
engine cooling
operating rpms
cruise rpm range possible midrange lean spots etc

90 mountain...10 tree.
