Another 5.7 down

Used to think these things were fairly reliable but my 5.7 work truck last year died so I got another one from the fleet with 115000 on it a few months back. Same issue now both 2500 trucks. Can honestly say i'm not going to miss the rough riding pos these things are.
Wondering if anyone else has dealt with these things and had issues with lower mileage?

If you are talking the 5.7 Dodge, I have a tale or two to share about the fleet we HAD at work. Brand new fleet of 2018's and we had to get rid of them before they were even at 50,000 km's. The majority of them were half tons, mine was a 3/4 ton. 11 out of the 14 had the fuel pumps go, head gasket replaced not once but twice on my 2500 and it consumed oil from day one. It didn't burn oil but every week it needed a top up, kinda like the oil just disappeared???. The majority of them would have to have the heater knob on full tilt to get any kind of warm air to come out of the vents too, all or nothing. You could not pay me to drive one of those turds!! Oh and the fuel mileage? Don't even get me started lol, that 5.7 was a thirsty thirsty whooore. Good riddance!

110000 kms ish and new motors . Everyone of them . Lol
I have one in a Jeep Cherokee and it’s been great but it’s a 2011.

We work on lotsa the dodge 5.7l and only problems ever, are exhaust manifold leaks, it seems. A few with noisy lifters on start-up, nothing abnormal .... You guys better find better maintenance mechanics or use better oil... Jus sayin' ;) … we have several that are approaching 500,000kms and they're gonna be traded off soon

I agree with the 6.7l fords... seems like one thing after another.

Agree about maintance and oil . Mine gets changed every 8000kms and fully synthetic no matter what the gauge the says?
I think those stupid gauges cause more problems as most people go by them . Dumb

yup... had a guy in last week, and he was 25000kms since last oil change and he said he wasn't due yet, even though our sticker showed he was 20000kms over. The maintenance reminder said he still had 25% to go til next oil change.... hmmm

We have kept up the maintenance, they just don't like how we run 'em I guess. Lotsa starting and stopping, lots of idling and rarely see over 60 km /h

Obviously your sticker is wrong, because no new engine requires oil changes at 5000km.

Km do not mean anything, it is hours, temp and RPM and the oil life indicator does take that all into account. I would agree something is wrong if he is at 25,000km and it is showing 25%, but the manual will tell you how many km/oil change as a baseline.

Fair enough, but you don't hear of motors failing left and right due to oil issues. Millions of people follow the manufacturer warranty oil change intervals.

Yes oil is cheaper, but more oil is not really the cheaper option.

My 6.2 is 0-20 semi synthetic year around and know a few that dumped there’s at around the 60000 kms due to using a fare bit of oil .
But they idled lots and ran the recommended oil changes by meter on dash .
Mine has been great but change at 8000 kms plus air filter and I bumped up to 5-30 fully synthetic.
Have had a few 6.2’s and all have been great and no problems so who knows .

Yah not a fan of that thin oil. Not much thicker then water when it’s hot.

Wife had a 16 ram 1500, we sold it at 56,000km. In the time we owned it....Lifters replaced one side, lifters replaced other side, one head replaced, one piston replaced. Was a complete pos.

my new Tundra takes 0w20 oil. my 08 Tundra with the same engine and power train used 5w20. Not sure why they changed it.
