The insurance company i had for years was bought out last year. Still the same people running everything but obviously there has been some changes. I have given them time but I just dont like how things are done when it comes to payments and such. I dont think I am getting "screwed" over but I just have a feeling something just isnt right. Cant really explain it. Costs have also gone up even though I have never claimed anything.

I have an old pickup truck, a sled, and a townhouse for which i have to insure the contents only and nothing with the outside. Yes condo fees cover the outside insurance and yes condo fees suck. I probably should had tried to get a house instead but its done.

Question is what insurance companies is everyone using? Ideally I like to keep everything though one. Any kind of price ideas?

I'm with intact.

Been with them since I started
Through Taylor made insurance out of Sherwood park.

They've treated me good.

I've been with Plains insurance for over 10 years, there's been some very bad points that had me close to leaving but overall it's meh. Not bad enough to leave, but not overly happy either. Since the last lady I dealt with left probably 5-6 years ago it's a new person at least once a year which is definitely annoying.

Haven't had any polices renew since june and sure hope I don't have massive increases coming. One part I don't like is every year I have to tell them to shop around rates and I make sure they send me a email with prices and companies so I know they are doing it, they are happy to just renew with current insurance company, even though I give them about $11k a year in business with all my policies.

I'm stuck with peace hills for my houses as they are the only one's who insure acreages at a decent price unless I look for a different broker, otherwise I would avoid them at all costs as when I did have a claim I fought with them for years to get a proper payout. I left intact a long time ago but when I was with them and had a claim they were fantastic, as well as when someone insured through them hit my vehicle, they were better to deal with then my own insurance company. I just don't deal with them now as rates are higher for me.

It seems to me like certain companies like/don't like different things so you are limited in who to go with if cheapest rate is biggest concern.

I just wanted to point out a couple of points for this discussion.

There are brokers who find the best match of insurance company (or companies) to what you own and do. Plains Insurance is a broker.

A number of insurance companies will only deal with a broker as the broker does a good part of the gathering of information - Intact, Aviva, Wawanesa, Peace Hills etc. are these kind of companies.

There are also insurers who are "direct writers" meaning they sell through and deal directly with the public and have their own exclusive sales force. AMA, Cooperators, TD Insurance, Allstate, State Farm, Millennium Insurance are some of the underwriters like this out there.

So there are multiple ways to obtain insurance and you should pick the one you think is best.

When it comes to claims, I have heard good and bad about every company's claims experience. There are both company adjusters and independent adjusters and both will have varying degrees of experience and expertise. They are humans too and when treated poorly by a claimant, are seldom inspired to go any further than what is absolutely required of them.

If you are using a broker, they can also be an advocate for you when dealing with a difficult adjuster.

The cost of insurance is going up across the board for everything so If you only have a 10% increase overall, you are probably good.

So in answer to the original thread, there are a ton of insurance companies out insuring older trucks, sleds, quads and condos and prices are all over the board and everyone's prices are going up.

I was with Aviva for years and just switched to Guarantee Company of North America and they were just purchased by Intact.

Any recommendations for an insurance company that will insure a 110 for a reasonable price? Currently with Desjardins who used to be state farm. They insured my 50 three years ago no problem, less than 100 a year. Now getting my son a 110 and the quote was almost 400 as they won't underwrite through Desjardins. Called Klondike and they were $600 a year, just liability, fire and theft, no collision. I am willing to move my house coverage if need be as most won't do a stand alone policy, that's what I had to do three years ago for insurance on the 50. Let me know anyone that has added a kid's dirtbike recently who you had good luck with. Thanks.

All my stuff is with cooperators. Been with them 25 years. My daughters ttr90 is 87$ a year for PLPD
Just plpd? Desjardins will do just the plpd for 51 a year but I want fire and theft as it's a brand new bike and they won't do any physical coverage which sucks.

Desjardins, since they took over State Farms business its tough to make a claim, lots of issues and arguments. Now thats on property claims, I hear it from the insureds. After a cleaim they all go somewhere else as they cant believe there so cheap. Arguing little things, replacing partial flooring, and 1/2 the cabinets, and this is on many sites I deal with.

Been using AMA for plated vehicles and found this year with out claims they took a decent jump in premium, when asked they said it was due..

Run the business threw a broker and seen premiums double over the last 5 years, with excuses after excuses

Would love to be able to self insure and walk away from these thief’s..

Sonnet is a division of Economical, there ok. TD offers very good vehicle rates. Bel Air Direct is Intact direct writer. Cooperators is has decent policy. For snowmobiles if your a member of the Alberta Snowmobile Association you can get a stand alone Great group policy through Drayden Insurance. For many acreages it seems like the policy's are mostly through Wawanesa, Peace Hills, or Cooperators.
There laid a bit out for you, I work for all the insurance company's as a building consultant.

They will always try for all your business but you can still get stand alone for your sled.
