I cannot find that long antenna that came with the GT-3tp about 4 years back, the closest looking to it was the RS 771 but you can see the numbers to not add up. I have not tested the stubbies or the regular lengths that come with most radios but it seems to me the ones supplied with the radios are really not that bad around 2.0. But real world is not just numbers.

I need 2 good external mic's with covers for baofeng UV-5R

I have broken a baofeng one and another off brand

my Motorolla one is gold on the rino 650, just cant find one with the dual antenna plug....

2 mics, 2 snow screen bags required ASAP... I'd even buy 2 more radios with long antennas if I could get it all together...

This would be SWR reading if you had a reading of 1.0 your radio would be transmitting 100% of its power and a reading of 3.0 it be transmitting a 1/3 of the radios power.

Ahh I assumed so but wanted to be sure. So can these antannas be cut to get a better SWR??? But wanted to ask first. Some of those are very high.

Is any of those like the NA-771?

15 or 16 inch retevis antenna was 3.7 and 19.9 removed 3.5 inches 8.0 and 9.2 then 4 more inches 19.9 and 8.2 So it does change things for sure.

I have had very good luck with these. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32966272790.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.31764c4df9SyMl

took about 3 weeks shipping.

Any antenna you buy will be tuned to a certain frequency. They will work out side of that frequency put the SWR will start going up. Most the antenna you buy on on amazon are tuned to the ham bands and work best somewhere in the middle of them. The better manufactures will sell the same model tuned to different frequency of your choice. I stock the NA-771 tuned for both the ham band and 155mhz which works better on the RR channels.

This thread kind of got high jack to an antenna thread but no one is complaining well almost no one. I choose RR17 because it was more or less 1/2 way on the vhf frequency for RR's. I had a 5 watt 5r and the retevis 20watt antenna for testing and it was receiving logging truck traffic loud and clear from 21.5 away using google earth ruler so this antenna is pretty darn good on the receive as well. One more antenna coming for testing then off to the stubbies. I bring in 20 antennas at a time so when i test it is just not one antenna like the na 771 it got tested 4 different times and i took the averages of those. Except for the diamond and this one in the link they are a little pricey to bring in 20.

After spending literally thousands of dollars on every dam make of handheld antennas i could find. The lowest swr numbers i have ever seen came from a Baofeng 771 antenna at a cost of 6 dollars, one came it at 1.01 and the other came in at 3.35. Not a very consistent numbers, so i ordered 20 of them to test. However very few antenna makers come in below the 1.5 SWR as advertised. The best ones i have found usually come in around a 1.7 average rarely going over 2. But i have never tested one that ever come in at 1.01 for the longer antennas.

Have you tested the 20 units yet or still waiting for them? Also is it a Baofeng 771 or Nagoya 771? You have a link?

I have tested Nagoya 771 and also 2 only Baofeng 771. Probably the best longer antennas i have tested so far, is the Retevis HA06 a lot of them come under 1.5. But i will let you know "if" any of the 20 Baofeng 771 match the one i tested at 1.01.

But i guess this thread is about a better vhf radio, after testing 80 or so different models of radios and manufactures, nothing comes close to the Quansheng TG-UV2 plus, it says will progam on Chirp but it will not.

I have an older Quansheng that has been good but has a persistent battery drain. Even when switched off it kills the battery in about a week.

What Quansheng is that? Talk about a Battery eater this is days not weeks, the Leixen UV-25D hits 33 watt out on some channels, you need to buy the battery for the power point on this massive handheld with a mic. It's one drop above the Quansheng but no channel mode.

The worst pile of crap are the new baofeng 10 watts and waterproof models, and also those cheap baofengs on sale... that are not a sale at all, i am sure those chinamen buy up all the rejected firmware and install it in any radio case. Then put out a super sale so they don't have to haul them to the dump.

Well of the 20 Baofeng 771 antenna, 10 were garbage at basically 4.00 on the swr.... 5 were between 1.50 and 2.00 ...and 5 were at 1.13 pretty good. And 4 had the threads not cut quite right. So not the best but some were very good.
