Yes he would need a female, i would love to test your diamond antenna. Of coarse there were a lot of antennas i do not have anymore that i would have loved to tested as well... not going to happen though. I have a lot more antennas coming though.

You can buy a tester and a retevis 771 antenna cheaper than i can buy one diamond antenna, then we would know which one gets better results. I would just love to hear i second that or hell no i got way different results.

Haha That would be $31.00 dollars to canadapost in mailing charges. But you know i just might buy one of those anyway. Anyone wanting testing in the UHF favorite channels let me know i will test all the antennas i have including the male ones and get back to you.

X-it how did that folding antenna work out? The flat ribbon looking one. I've always liked the idea but not sure how they perform, as they seem like a military-wannabe thing.

I've had great success with retevis as well, no measured data but brought it to work this year and side by side with company Icomms and kenwoods my uv82 outperformed them both in terms of range and clarity

Well i know it did not do to good on the meter of coarse i should have pulled it out. But man it sure did good in the field testing before the tester, they are not the most durable though. The 42 inch military one ..in a video i watched the guy was receiving ranges beyond anything i ever could get. Give me the frequencies you mostly use and i will extended it out and give you a reading. I guess i should have taken the time to read your post better. The military one came in at 2.0 i have not tested it much though... i have only owned it for 2 years haha.

I have been running the Kenwood TK-3212-1 for the last 8-10 years. They are pretty expensive, but work great. We order them with the high gain antennas.
Found one on Ebay below.

Expensive for sure but they are a VERY well built radio. Ask any oil field guy.

Im a big a Kenwood fan, I have many Kenwood pieces including two radios.

I have no problem spending a few more bucks for quality stuff.

Thanks! How close to the actual frequencies do you need to be for a test? All the work stuff is between 160-170 mhz, sledding down around 150.

Maybe just try 165.0 and 150.0?

The retevis antenna i tested was the male with a adapter to fit the baofeng, i think it was just over 2.0 at 165.

A lot of these radios will not transmit on any of the RR channels. It might be ok for the off road channel and that is about it.

So because they are ligit ham radio's they are locked outta the us military bands.

"MARS & CAP officially refer to Military Auxiliary Radio System and Civil Air Patrol. Both use frequencies just outside the ham bands in either the VHF or UHF band or both."

So a guy need to do a slight modification to them to open up the full tx spectrum.

Three more antennas checked ...Retevis 771 female Poor 4.5, they changed their product line, Diamond 701 not so good, probably a knock off from china 2.5. J-nuoda 666 pretty darn good 1.4 More to come eventually.

Don't remember saying anything about AM....just posted the video to show how to remove the diode.

Removing said diode will give you the full VHF spectrum of 136-174Mhz as legal ham radio's are clamped to 144-148Mhz.

And wait till you buy the programming cable for that radio, i spent 100 bucks for a Ic v82. Well one that will actually work that is.
