Daughter and I got it done yesterday.
No bulls just about 14 cows and calves.
Had a cow and calf for a few minutes at 9 yards, but we don't orphan calves.
Then the rest stepped out at 75 yards and gave us a couple minutes to make the selection.
Said her heart was just pounding, first time so close to so many elk.
We are now done for the year and buddies daughter and mine did all the gun shots this year.
Huge cow!

Congrats!, beautiful big cow. Good for yous also not to shoot a cow with a calf. Makes me sick to my stomache when I see a fawn or calf staring at it's mothers gut pile.

That looks awesome Randy.
About a 5# roast with 3 slices bacon in center.
Heavy rub that is 50% brown sugar
Maple smoked bacon on top
With 2 tablespoon brown sugar on top
Sitting in 1 cup beef broth, no cover.
Cook at 275 until core at 180 - almost 3 hours
House smelled awesome also.

He is lucky they were played out. When we were raising whitetail deer there was a couple years we cut horns off and even in the squeeze you could hardly hang on to the bucks.
Or the fawns for that matter. Lmao
We were giving fawns shots one spring and one shot out underneath the squeeze on one side and my buddy grabbed it and wrestled it to ground. It was bawling like a human baby crying and so was my buddy by the end. Ended up on his back bear hugging the little guy and long gangly legs just a flailing.
Omg it was priceless.
