BUT...this is a big "BUT"....
...I bet on model year 2024, there will be the G5 chassis and an electric summit. Battery powered 165, electric powered, whatever you want to call it. Im willing to bet $5.00 that at model year 2024 there is a BRP powered electric summit.

It will be the Taiga Motors motor/battery after BRP buys them. Taiga is claiming 180hp at all elevations. Not sure if that 180hp is available on their extended range battery to 140 kms though.

brp would never purcahse tiaga. If electric snowmobiles are financially feasible they will design and develop them in house

Yup same here. I was sitting at the pre-release with a grand in hand and 2 minutes into the video I was speechless. 165hp? huh? I told the dealer "nope", this is not cost effective for less than 4000 feet for me.

IF BRP follows the pattern of hp increase, (4~5hp per 4 model years) THEN it will be 165hp for 2020, 21, 22, 23 [4 model years], then 5hp increase on the 4th year. So say it will be 170hp at model year 2024.

I hope you’re wrong with the “5hp increase on the 4th year” but like you said, the dealer I was always go said they had one left and the price $23,081.34 with tax. I can buy a 19 165” with 3” paddles from another dealer for about $13 with tax and put a redline or silver turbo kit on for $18,000.00 or $33,000.00 and have waaaaaaay more power

No the E-Tec was built by Rotax which has been in doos since the beginning. I think the only reason they bought out Evinrude was for the boat and seadoo engines


Thats not what Ive heard.

You are right Dan. BRP bought Evinrude partially for their engine tech then Rotax and Evinrude worked together to develop the ETEC snowmobile fuel delivery system. Sat at the launch and listened to the spiel. Of course their boat line was a huge consideration as well.

You are right Dan. BRP bought Evinrude partially for their engine tech then Rotax and Evinrude worked together to develop the ETEC snowmobile fuel delivery system. Sat at the launch and listened to the spiel. Of course their boat line was a huge consideration as well.


It makes good business sense to buy technology some times rather than develop it. A lot quicker to do.


Looks like that Taiga is in a Doo G4 chassis already.

why didnt Brp buy silber and go that way with technology that exists? why did they develop their own turbo system and even their own TURBO?

i should have clarified my statment. Perhaps they will purchase rights to certain technologies but how it ends up in the final product will be reworked by BRP engineering 100%

i should have clarified my statment. Perhaps they will purchase rights to certain technologies but how it ends up in the final product will be reworked by BRP engineering 100%

they wanted something that ran good and they could offer warranty on? but you could be right though. I personally wouldn't be surprised if they buy out taiga at some point.

I could be wrong, but didn’t BRP already buy a company that was working on EV’s? Thought I saw a pic of some concepts somewhere.

They have a big EV lineup already. the golf cart thing is slick for resorts, seen a couple in Hawaii

Cause they didn’t want to just slap a turbo on. The turbo has a different expansion chamber and the turbo is placed directly on the end of it. Plus they removed some material from the crank to help keep the sled lighter

HMM... BRP uses Rotax motors, KTM uses Rotax motors, KTM has electric dirt bikes....

An E sled would weigh and cost as much as a Tesla model 3 if it could last an entire day and if motorized backcountry access gets shut down, the sport dies regardless of how machines are powered. Same would go for electric side by sides. I can't picture an application for batteries in the powersports world.
