2019 Belt Cover

So just watched the belt cover update video from Norona (and I do like the Videos Dave), and they are increasing the outer hole size again to try to cool the clutches. Now my question is, why don't they just remove the plastic part of the cover all together? Other than to hold the belt, what is the point? I'm not asking to be a smart ass, I'm looking for a real answer. I know when it was introduced on previous sleds, they said it was designed to move the air better across the clutch for cooling but that is obliviously not working, if all they is changing now is to make the inlet hole bigger, whats the down fall of cutting it off?

The cvt cover works, remember the cvt cover is not causing the problem, the problem is the motor mount in some cases is allowing movement, this is causing the stress on the belt, which causes excessive heat and the belt to fail. The fins on the primary and now the secondary for 2019 won’t help grenade belts, that is why updates for free did not include those and probably won’t for the new updates. Updates will be to fix the problems, once problems are fixed you won’t have the heat etc. My personal belief is they have to get this perfect this time round and their goal is to make it that way, so some of the updates are to over do it to eliminate anything and everything possible. An example would be the cvt cover clip, it is not causing the belt to fail but they are moving it to eliminate any possiblity as well as some high points in the clutch area. This included making big the hole bigger to bring in more air and the find to move it around again to just make it better, same with a redesigned front grill and prefilter to bring in more air for that circulation. I hope that 2019 is a year all these issues get laid to rest and guys can just enjoy riding, there will always be guys complaining for sure as this is a passionate sport, all I can say is the everyone at brp is working towards making the sled as perfect as possible. so does the iqr support braces help with this movement issue causing the heat? (i think that's what they call those support brackets between the engine and frame)

Come on Dave the reason they never included the finned primary in the updates is because the cost would have been too much. Is brp going to replace all of the motor mounts for the 2017 through 2018 models this id like to see. I had to spend over 600 dollars of my own money to make my sled not burn belts off is brp going to reimburse me that money I'm out. Anyone who spends 18000 on a new sled should not have to worry about runability issues.

So was the Polaris dragon. Great sled ...well except for the slight engine issue on a few of them..that ended up costing a few people alot of money(myself included)

Polaris did at least stand behind there warranty from my experience though, unless there was a mod outside of SLP pipe (I think that was allowed). I only knew of a couple Dragon 900 belt eatin' owners and poo supplied them with belts till they sorted out there issues. I had an 08, 800 with no issues, but motor piled up on both my 09, 800's in late spring of 2010, one got a new top end and the other got a 2010 crate engine compliments of Polaris with 0 cost to me. Maybe good dealer was the difference? Outside of warranty may have been a gamble how ever, but that was no secret.

If I hear one more time that the belt cover works im gonna puke. Cat and poo do not do this and all is good there with belts. That dam cover traps in heat, why is Doo making the hole bigger and putting fin on the clutches if the cover works so good? Doo has to get their heads straight and forget about making the quietest sled on the market, look at the axys it has a simple felt airbox that leaves tons of room under the hood for heat to rise up and out. The G4 has a STUPID airbox that is huge for no reason at all, so it blocks heat from rising up and out. Look at the G4 there is no vents on the hood at all above the pipe, this is sheer STUPIDITY. Cats clutch runs cool, they have room for the air to come out of vents and at the top by the steering column the heat escapes as well. But for some reason the BRP engineers want to build the quietest sled on the hill, cmon build a normal airbox and develop a hood with vents and you would see alot of your belt problems go away

Got to agree with you! Polaris replaced 5 of my dragon 800 motors no problem. Can’t complain about that area. Not sure if they would warranty belts, that machine was the best on belts I could get at least 5 motors to one belt!

So all 17-18's are needing yet another recall for motor mounts,cvt covers and secondary replacements?

I'm betting 17-18's will get free belt covers and motor mounts. Ix nay on the secondary pulley half. Didn't see it for the 17's on the P Drive.

Starting to feel like owning a Ford now, let the consumers do your R&D. Must cost a fortune to replace all previous two yrs worth of parts/shop time.

Blame that on epa, it's all for noise reduction, cover and all

I say bs on the epa excuse. Why then does Polaris or Cat not have the same setup of enclosing the hood and building a large obtrusive airbox that allows no airflow.

And 3 manufactuers have an open belt area. One encloses the clutches. Its not the epa. No way

Maybe the skidoo is louder?
The EPA considers noise a type of pollution now. KTM even puts crappy street half-knobbies on their EXC street legal dirtbikes to reduce knobby noise during EPA sound testing (or that’s what they say anyway)

It's not noise. They have the same amount of foam on both sides and a giant insulated can on the mag side for the noise.

Plastic is just their attempt to direct airflow as a band aid solution to a problem they have had since the xm but have never been able to fix.

SkiDoo's are built in Canada and Polaris and Cats are built in the USA. Look at the 2 governments? Which one do you think is the more green friendly?
