Looking at a new truck and trying to decide which engine to go with. I tow a 30ft camper and am wondering if I should go with the 5.3 or the 6.2l. The trailer weighs about 6000lbs. Just wondering how the engines compare. Thanks
Not so. I got a 6.2 in my 2012 LT. I know they changed some of the packaging up but im pretty sure you can still get one in any half ton. I love my 6.2 way nicer then the 5.3. I run 35" tires so it is hard on fuel but was good when it was stock. Will pull 6000+ no problem. The problem with going to the 6.2 chevy motor is you have to buy an upscale LTZ or high country package to get one.For that money you can get a LT Duramax diesel thats not too loaded. No comparison I went from a 2011 Duramax to a 14 5.3 it gets the job done but towing economy sucks .Miss the torque of the diesel.
Nope in the new models only LTZ or High Country. Was looking at them last weekend. Sticker was something retarded like $66k. For a half ton... nope. Not so. I got a 6.2 in my 2012 LT. You sir are correct. Just had a look, they mustve changed that for the 2014 year. Sticker may be 66k but when I was browsing they were at employee pricing and it was almost 10k off. My next wheels will be a diesel tho.Nope in the new models only LTZ or High Country. Was looking at them last weekend. Sticker was something retarded like $66k. For a half ton... nope.
I'm far from one of the top earners on this site but even $56k for a halfer seems like madness to me.You sir are correct. Just had a look, they mustve changed that for the 2014 year. Not excited to see an 8 spd tranny.A couple friends bought 6.2 1500's to supplement the 2500's they have. Both have/or had gas 2500 units. They feel the 6.2 in a 1500 is better than the gas 2500. If they need more, they use the diesels. 6.2 units are scarce in the 2014's on the dealers lots. 2015 units not scheduled to be built until October, but like PFI said, will have a 8speed.
