Looking at a new truck and trying to decide which engine to go with. I tow a 30ft camper and am wondering if I should go with the 5.3 or the 6.2l. The trailer weighs about 6000lbs. Just wondering how the engines compare. Thanks

Used to tow my 29.5 foot bumper pull with a 5.3,that was 6300 lbs dry. It will tow it but not very well and it will drink fuel. A friend of mine had a 6.2 that was much better, plenty of power but still a little heavy on fuel. If you tow often or for a lot of miles I would go with the 6.2 or diesel. Then if you ever plan to upgrade your trailer you will have enough truck already, trust me been there!

The problem with going to the 6.2 chevy motor is you have to buy an upscale LTZ or high country package to get one.For that money you can get a LT Duramax diesel thats not too loaded. No comparison I went from a 2011 Duramax to a 14 5.3 it gets the job done but towing economy sucks .Miss the torque of the diesel.

My trailer is about the same weight and pulled it with my 2010 Silverado with 5.3. I found it to be a turd for towing. Gutless and burned a lot of gas.

Not so. I got a 6.2 in my 2012 LT. I know they changed some of the packaging up but im pretty sure you can still get one in any half ton. I love my 6.2 way nicer then the 5.3. I run 35" tires so it is hard on fuel but was good when it was stock. Will pull 6000+ no problem.

I've heard a lot of guys say the 5.3 is really held back by trans torque limiting. A tune really changes it a lot. No first hand experience though.

Nope in the new models only LTZ or High Country. Was looking at them last weekend. Sticker was something retarded like $66k. For a half ton... nope.

You sir are correct. Just had a look, they mustve changed that for the 2014 year. Sticker may be 66k but when I was browsing they were at employee pricing and it was almost 10k off. My next wheels will be a diesel tho.

I'm far from one of the top earners on this site but even $56k for a halfer seems like madness to me.

True. The price of vehicles nowadays is nuts. The chev 2500 gas is a dog tho. Better off with a 1500 6.2 for sure.

the initial 2007 body style gms only were 4.8 and 5.3 for a couple years then they offered the 6.2L in more trims than the denali, it will be a while. My boss has a 6.2 1500 high country.... meh.

get a hemi....... i did, love it, not missing gm at all. 5.7L with a 8 speed, no reason you cant get at least $10,000 off sticker on 2014s right now.

I'd rather drive my current EB F150 than a 5.3 or 2500 gasser pulling that trailer and empty as well.

Personally don't think I would tow without a diesel as power plant, but your weight is on the lighter side, so the 6.2 should do a fine job on that as well, and less ininal cash

pushing over 50k for a gas truck is ridicules, look at new diesels, they want over 70cash... Plume nuts

but pulling big weights is where the diesel shines, we have pulled our 23000lb toy hauler threw alaska and Yukon last year, and this year threw Nevada, Arizona, California up the orgon coast line, over 22000kms of ulgy hilly hot terrain... jake brake and Diesel engine made life very pleasant and to date truck has never seen the inside of a shop... Reliability like that I don't mind paying the extra money for a workhorse.... But with that big weight, 8mpg is all the diesel will do

A couple friends bought 6.2 1500's to supplement the 2500's they have. Both have/or had gas 2500 units. They feel the 6.2 in a 1500 is better than the gas 2500. If they need more, they use the diesels. 6.2 units are scarce in the 2014's on the dealers lots. 2015 units not scheduled to be built until October, but like PFI said, will have a 8speed.

Not excited to see an 8 spd tranny.
