Did I miss something? Was this supposed to be big news? Why do we care about the release of a cross over model? Not sure what the big deal about "no big deal" is.
Definately #4 out west in sales but in the east on the groomed trails probably alot higher. To bad but those of us that do ride yamaha in the west still like them, at least we aren't complaining about the engines falling out like poo or being time bombs like doo. They all have their problems. Ride what you like just ride!!!!
But really are they when you can sell to mass numbers. Marketing tells you if 300,000 in the east ride groomed trails compared to 30,000 in the west riding powder where do you target. I hate the fact that as a yamaha rider I only have the nytro mtx to choose for mountains without custom building my sled but I do understand the marketing factor. Sucks but if you want very low maintenance and bullet proof engines you learn to live with it.
But your guessing that the riders out east don't want change?Which I'm betting they would like to see a new chassis also. I know guys that own dealerships that are saying they don't know why they're falling behind.
The rx-1 came out in 03, then 5 years later the nytro came out. Between those 5 years there were the rx-1, the vector, the apex, the phazer, and the nytro created.
Now 08-2013 there has been.........
But I was watching a snowmobiler tv episode and he hinted there is a new chassis in the works.
Love to see a newer chassis and the apex engine back in it. Guess we will have to wait and see and I never at anytime said the riders out east don't want new technology, I said Yamaha has targeted the masses rather than us out west wanting mountain sleds. Why would they have come out with power steering because it help with darting and make it lighter to steer. Not a requirement on the mountain sleds because our skis only touch once in a while. Hopefully they soon bring something new to the table.
Agree! Hubby was on the road all day yesterday so I checked the website out for him to tell him the big exciting news...ya not much excitement there at all! So do we have to wait until March now for more exciting releases or a whole year??
Yamaha is a sleeping giant, possibly the one manufacturer that has the ability to throw money at it like no one else. Unfortunately for the faithful they can't seem to get the sand out of there eyes.
LOL #4.... So what? What you are forgetting is that when you build a sled with the best fit and finish around, and you have a motor that will last 15 yrs, you will lose "sales" market share annually because the product is lasting longer than the competition. I don't own a Yammy but you can't fault their logic of going to a 4 stroke, its the way of the future. As snopro said, they have the $$$ to develop it, I don't think they are ignoring the faithful, but its hard to be #4 and develop a new sled every two seasons to sell 100,000 of them. One could argue that another company like Doo has higher sales figures because the consumers are constantly replacing their product.
You are right nothing is bulletproof, but the reliability of Yamaha's fourstroke is second to no one. If it is man made it will break. But hopefully yamaha will bring something new to the table.
That is true. Being that you said that, I put on just over 3500 miles last year on my race gas cat with no problems. Pulled it apart this year for a maintenance rebuild. Found out everything was tight and didn't need it but did it anyways. Only thing that really needed replacing was the reeds. I think that counts for reliable..........
Unfortunately for Yammie lovers (myself included), the Japanese approach the market quite differently than the north Americans. They saw the slump in sales when the market crashed in '08 and their instinct was to cut costs by slashing racing budgets and reigning in R+D costs. You can see it across their entire product line, not just sleds but ATVs and bikes as well. Same with Honda, Kawasaki, and Suzuki. No major changes, just tweaks to existing designs. The few exceptions were probably well into the development cycle before the market crash occurred (2010 YZ450F, Teryx 4). Polaris, BRP, and Cat are still pushing ahead with new designs but Sled and ATV sales are still well behind their pre 2008 numbers. I suppose time will tell who has the better long-term strategy.
