Hey Cat dudes (and anyone who has the opportunity to get some seat time on them)...would like to get your honest opinion on the new (2012) machines as compared to the other brands in the same league. Deep snow machines comparo, crossover, etc. Please state what is better or worse in your opinion in relation to handling, power, ease of maintenance, operational issues etc. This is not for the purpose of bashing, just would like to know how they compare. I have my theories but would like real world feedback from real riders. I hope they are excellent.
Each manufacturer has their strong points and weak points we all know. Please respond with an unbiased opinion or don't respond please. ;)

I don't think you will ge the eanswer your looking for till the snow flies. Not many have ridden the new cats. Those that have been lucky enough say nothing but good things.

A few facts for you;

Cat built multiple runs of prototypes working out details each run. This is rare for any manufacturer!
Cat had one of the longest spring testing sessions.
Cat has put many miles and long hours on the protypes. Fellow I know got to spring test. Said the unit he was riding had over 5000 miles on it. That's a pretty good test run!

Best part about ownig a new Cat is that it drives Maxwell nuts. That there is as good a reason as any to buy one.

Yep; I was gonna buy a new XP until I read all the posts stating that you basically just ride them sitting down over all the mountains till your gas tank reads half full; then turn them around on a 50* slope (while still on the seat) and ride them back over all the peaks back to the truck. Sounds kind of boring to have a sled that basically just hovers over the snow and has no actual competition on the snow that can come close to it. So I decided on the 800 ProClimb instead. I figured that by buying a sled that can barely get out of the parking lot I won't have to pack as much gear, and I can always walk back to the truck for a rest after I get stuck.

Having ridden an M7 for many years and miles one problem I did have with the old cat was the air intakes were mounted at the top of the hood just in front of the windshield. In the deep snow these were always getting covered with snow and the sled would bog for lack of air. Was forever reaching over the windshield to wipe the snow away while I was riding just to keep the thing going. This was never an issue with the XP's buddies were riding as the air intake was better located to keep the snow off. Not sure if this was an issue with Polaris. Having looked at the 2012 Mountain machines at Argyll Motor Sports the other day I see they now have the air intake mounted behind the windshield almost where the gas tank is. I think this is a great improvement over the old models as that was one of the few problems I had with the M7. Brett Rasmussen still rides Arctic Cat and has been riding the new models all summer. I think he has a website where he comments on the pro's and con's of the new models.

I have to agree, I had the same problem with my 2010 M8 in real deep snow conditions. Caused me to get stuck a few times, try to take off and the thing would just bog.

the only time i have had this issue my 2010 was when it was super dry deep pow, i think it comes from the exhaust personally and not the air intake. the guys i know that run tunnel dump's dont have this problem, and as soon as i pull it into a left hand carve the bog goes away.

as for the new cats, im one of the lucky few that got some seat time on the new chassie. was super nice, cushy on the trail, and good on the steep.....pulled over easier then my cat, and didnt over commit like the polaris iq chassie. took me a bit to get used to the more rider forward stance, but after a couple minutes i was liking it......on thing i will say is that the steering options make the new cats two completly different sleds. the horizontal setup is gonna be a huge plus for anyone coming from a doo......and if your coming from a cat and you go horizontal your gonna hate it!!!!! however, the veritcal post makes it ride more like an mseries.
the one i rode did have a BD pump gas turbo on it as well, so i cant really say how much power the chaincase frees up as opposed to the DD from the precious cats. but it did have more guts on the bottom end then my 2010 which i found surprising being a turbo and all......hope that might shed some light for ya......i should just copy that post cause its like the 4th time i posted it lol....

This post is intended to be replyed to after people have had a bit of time on the saddle of the new cats. Already on the second page and nothing but mumbo jumbo. People must be bored waiting for the white stuff. Say... while we are waiting lets start a game of guess what year and model of sled I bought this year. Lets see how many replys until someone gets it right. 1 hint...I bought the best sled in the world. Go.;)

Only 1 directed at the 2012 cats so far and not what my original post asked for. Maxwell I am not sure if you read the original post. Thank you clarkydubs and when you have opportunity to ride other brands of the same purpose please provide more comparison feedback. I am sure the new cats will be very good by their owners but I like to get feed back on how they compare to others. We will leave the cat bragging to the Cat specific area. Thanks and I hope to see lots of comparison feedback as the winter moves on.

how can you compare it to anything else???? everything else is just a bag of bolts compared to the pro climb!!!!!!

your expectations out of this thread are stupid, i can almost guarantee everyone on S&M who rode the proclimb rode it the same weekend i did.....your looking for a comparison for a sled that hasnt even officialy hit the snow. and the ones that have hit the snow were either protos that were rat bagged to ch!t from so much testing, or were protos released to the aftermarket for product devolpment..........i would love to tell ya that it high marks a etec in the soft fluff, is more flickable then the pro in the trees, but the honest answer is i dont know and NO BODY here does!!!!!!!
take it for what its worth......you remind me of my mother in law

Why are you asking about the new Cat if you bought a Polaris Pro?

This thread is set to fail right here.
A guy gave his opinion and you shut it down. He even didn't even bash another brand either.

Maybe you should be the one sticking to a Polaris specific area?
