2010 800r beat by 02 700??

no he is sincerely pissed off ha! especially since the 700 i ride is his old one lol. he says "ive never been able to beat ANYONE EVER". hes had a 340 when everyone else had 500's, a 583 when others had a 670, a 700 when others had the 800 so now bought a 800 and gets his ass kicked.

so would a 2010 800 summit with a 146 be a better competition against the old 700 summit (across a field)? since that way the track sizes are not so far apart? i mean yes yes it is clear that up a hill the new ones far out perform the old ones, but in the end they are both summits that are geared for the mountains anyways. I still feel the 800r should get to its top speed (regardless of what it is) before the old 700...:rolleyes:

no.....a 146 track is still 1" wider and has another 3/4 inch of lug on the grouind. the 146 summit is STILL geared lower. and not to mention your sled is geared to high as is from the factory as brp was still learning back in 2002. if you had it in the mountains you would find that out right away. whereas the 146 summit gearing is almost bang on from the factory for MOUNTAIN RIDING.

so basically if you installed YOUR gearing into your DADS sled it would KILLLLLLLLLLL you.

but other than that you are always going to have the advantage with higher gearing and a smaller track.

but who really has the advantage. that summit is at least 50% better in the steep and deep. sleds have come along way

i dont know? my stock summit 163 will do almost 80mph on a groomed trail.

so who cares? it can only hold 45mph in a climb.

i dont care what your drag racing gearing is...what trackspeed can it hold in a climb is what matters.

and i know you cant hold 88mph in a climb.

i would be suprised if your sled would break 50.

Thats mountain gearing. My drag gearing is taller. Ha Ha looks like youll be surprised.

after all its all about the pilot too and you just seem to pilot the keyboard

i've heard that clutching plays a HUGE role in all of this. I talk to guys that say gearing is only a very small part of the issue and that getting the clutch to engange and operate in just the right way is the key. Any further input

I agree! Summit would walk all over almost ant wedge in deep snow, there's a reason why they dont make the wedge any more. And they gear the new Summits down so they can pull the 800 Dragons out easier! LOL:d

Gearing is just as important as clutching. They work hand in hand.

yes your right...mph gains can be acheived through clutching. but once again you win some you loose some. start clutching your machine to go fast and it will be a slug in the mountains.

ah what the hell do I know?? I only ride a 440 anyways.

That was in my old wedge. My new wedge is geared for 84 actually. Thats my mountain set up. If I was to go to the drags again I would gear it alot taller.

Have you ever heard of Engine Tech? I run one of their small 1160s. I know their F9 kit has the record for fastest sled under 1000cc 8.7@151mph in the 1/4 mile. Not bad for a 900.

summit uses 21/43 while the summit 154 uses 19/45...way taller gears on the 2002.

his race results are purely based on gear ratios.

summit pulls off the line until gear ratio max speed 60mph.....2002 pulls ahead.....


assuming the same drivers ( not ) that gearing differance alone makes 15-20mph differance.

just clarifying, stock summit 700 gearing is 21/43?
