Any reason why to stay away?
Over heated pulling in the mountains....... you said...... well cooked trnny and thats about 3 grand touch to rebuild , if it was the motor that got cooked then your looking around the same if you can do the work yourself on the motor you might save a bit....but there are newer 5.9s out there for the same money........ new rubber a grand and new windshield about 250 at crystal glass...... so yeah keep looking or offer around 7500 see if it's worth your headache.

The motor and tranny are already rebuilt with 40000 km on them. He has receipts for this work. Still stay away?

It will be a 24 valve. The price is high. Do an oil sample if your wondering. That power train will outlast that truck if it was done properly. Was the work done by a reputable shop and is there any warranty on parts atleast. Check for sweeting around the head if the same block was used. Have a shop you use and trust check it out. Looks like a nice clean straight truck. Good luck.

I disagree, i own several of these trucks from 98-02, if the work was done right and has no problems then it is a good by=uy but not at that price. 7500 to 10k is more reasonable. but they are defiantly a good buy. simple to fix, bullet proof and reliable all the way. Get it inspected before purchase though just incase their are some hidden faults.

I'll call and ask where it was done and if the original block was used.

My dad is also a HD mechanic so he would be with me to look at it just wondering if the rebuild should keep memaway from buying.

This is obo for the truck so I am going to offer 10k

The pleasures of haggling. Start low and slowly work your way up if need be. Asking price of $12,500 offer $8500. Let them counter offer. BTW, does your insurance company require an inspection to insure? There's an added cost now if so. Haggle but don't insult. It can be a fun game.

Rebuild at that low of km is really weird, and a stock truck will not overheat and cook the engine unless it's a load that is WAY to heavy for the truck. And the chances of the engine AND tranny going at the same time sounds really weird. I would bet it was chipped or something stupid which would concern me about other parts.

That is to much money for a 13 year old truck. I picked up a 04 3500 QC laramie dually with 282km for $9,500. You can get a lot more truck for that price.

I have to go with something older than 2000 or my insurance is out the a$$. Plus I look at it if a vehicle costs 2500 a year it's a good buy. At 85000 km more on the 04 did you really save 5000 over this truck?

If you can get into a cummings with 40K on a dealer documented rebuild for under 10K I'd say go for it....

But what do I know...

By the time I re-did the front end on mine I am into my 1994 chevy 6.5L 4x4 ext 2500 for just under $8K with 235Km
