165 Alpha gets weighed

I think it's entirely to do with the design of the heat exchanger on the cat. Nothing running down the tunnel. The only downside that I have found is that you are going to need scratchers running up a long trail like Renshaw unless there's fresh pow on the trail.

What are the options for scratchers on the alpha? I'm guessing just the ski mount type?

I love internet Sledding...…. always emotional for a lot of folks this time of year.
Sure do appreciate the effort you folks all went through to hand pick each of these sleds to produce the results. Each mfg has come a long way in the past 10 years focusing on weight, durability and rideability. I'd ride almost any of them. They are all great sleds. But I sure wouldn't want to pull start them each and every time. So what's a true electric start system worth (not that other thingy) weight wise with battery? 20-25 lbs? How much does a Turbo add? another 20-25 as well after a guy ditches the OEM silencer? That would make them within 50 of my beloved 4 stroke Winder (not even related to a Viper) with full factory warranty and 200hp+ at altitude all week long for a touch under 20k. Plus a motor that has been developed to produce a lot more with forged internals for life. Takes only a bit to reduce the winder by 30lbs and then we are all within a half tank of fuel. Can you tell when your tank is full or half full? I can't.

Once again thanks to all who arranged, supported, followed through with the weigh off. Im glad the main 3 are so close in weight. Means they are all setting the bar to a level everyone hopes to achieve. Yamaha has 2 -150 lbs Factory riders in Brock Hoyer and Cody Matechuck both XGames gold medalists tossing our sleds into the same terrain any 2 stroke goes with any other Pro level riders. We are proud of what they do for our Brand. Plus they are great ambassadors. Long term Yamaha racers and riders. Top 5 "Canadian" Motocross Pros as well. Very humbling to see where and how they ride these buggies. #blucru

You're right in saying its not scientifically prove-able, and different snow conditions yielded different snow pack. But I think you have to agree that the Cat design is packing less snow (and many time substantially less snow) almost all the time. Cat has been doing this for about 7 years now on some models and if it was failing then we would have heard about it but it flat out works....good design, less overall on hill weight gain vs the others. So stop deflecting something that another brand has that is successful and embrace the technology....lol

Don’t have to be a scientist to see 60 lbs of ice on an 850 doo and then look at my mtn cat and see virtually none

You are the typical 162% correct that the results are inconclusive with this I must agree.
Doo once again was not the best.........there is no f'n way the results are conclusive until Doo wins.

This is not hard to do, park the sled on a tarp on the hill.
Scrape that sucker clean. Put snow in 5 gallon pail (two pails for the doo) and weigh.
.....won't even need a fancy scale.
Add this to the weights we just confirmed.
BOOM......you get real world weights again. (you can then even adjust for the fuel tank size....lol)

This even eliminates all the mods like cans people will have done.
Gives that equal bananas to bananas every one wants.
Gives conclusive results to 163%.

Do two weigh ins in one day, very easy and fast to do.

Does Anyone have a weight on a 162-165” two stroke turbo/electric start with the same Ready to ride regulations as they did in this test?

I’m home in a few days and will bring my Sidewinder with the basic Mods any person does to the sidewinder for a more accurate comparison? Just so it’s apples to apples. And I want to see what my sled actually weighs now aswell.

Preferably not a 2019 Pro lmao they light!

What amazes me most on this thread is how people are trying every angle to beat down the Alpha before a track ever makes a full turn.
The doo propaganda machine was full on for the G4 and it turn out a dud in 2017.
I have 164% faith that neither Polaris or Cat will make the same grave error in 2019.

No one wants to give the Alpha a fair chance.
FEAR.......all brands fear the Alpha's potential and maybe even more what Textron has coming.
That fear will be justified when tracks start to spin..

we can give it a fair chance. i will have to go pull my 800 etec out of the shed from 2016 because the alpha is a 800 cc correct?

comparing it to the new 850 class sleds just wouldnt be fair

And yes pull out the 800Etec - you will want to be on the best machine possible....lol

With the way these new sleds start on half a pull, quite amazing actually, I would never pay extra and take more weight for electric start. Sure, the shot is cool and light, but $750 worth? Not sold.

Definitely worth it, very cool tech, and to do estart with the recoil would cost the same as the shot anyway.

Ive weighed my 13 pro MTNTK 174 3”. No fuel is 495 lbs, add 70 lbs for 11.7 gallons of gas puts it at 565 lbs ready to ride. No electric start. Not a perfect comparison but gives you a rough idea. It’s about 80 lbs lighter. Not a big deal really. Sidewinders are awesome some of you need to be able to take a joke about weight.

That’s what I was looking for, so with electric start your looking at the 580-590 range.

I’m more curious to see my weight with the after market parts. My guess is 590-610 range but I don’t know. If the start weight is 643lbs that is.

Then you look at Chris Burandt with his sled Ludachris from last year. Stage 4 turbo, 165" @ 379lbs before fuel.

Ya I’ve seen some of his sled builds pretty crazy! I like his short rips on His instagram entertaining.

Well I’m going to weigh my sled on days off either way because I have no clue what it weighs. And I would like to know.
