Check your taillight wiring underneath your seat. The insulation has been known to rub through and short out against the tunnel and cause the problem like you've mentioned. That and check your power valve servo motor and make sure its operating correctly. I believe its supposed to open around 6900-7100rpm, I'd have to double check. Also make sure the breather hose to your ECU is open to fresh cold air. Believe it or not, that can make these sleds run like a dog.

Hey just wondering if you found out what the cause was, it just so happens my 2005 M7 is doing exactly the same thing!

Sounds like your power valves are not opening or need to be adjusted. The tolerances should be in your owners manual. If the valves are not opening check the solenoid.

Does it do it all the time or just once in a while? I had issues with mine similiar to what you are talking about and it was a broken reed. Common problem in that sled.

Come to think of it I thought i heard a slight backfire when i started it last ride, so reeds are definitely a possibility. but it always runs clean on bottom up to about 6700-6900 and then starts to sputter, i figured if it was reeds it would effect the whole rpm range.

How did you guys make out? My 06 M7 is also a problem, checked the operator's manual it calls for 1.35" of cable length for the valves i'll start with that. Keep it going someone will find our problem.

With a broken reed mine ran like a champ when it was on the pipe, it just bogged really bad trying to get it going. Another thing to check is clear hose coming off your ecu by the air box up front. It needs to be routed properly and away from any heat. That is the air line that tells your efi what it needs to be doing.
