well picking up a new crf70 for my son on tuesday and for me my cousin has a 2001 XR200 I know its not big power and its old school but its also only 500 bucks and runs great so thats the plus it will do for the time being till i can find somethinng bigger at the right price

I have a 2006 CFR 70 for sale that my son has outgrew. Its an awesome starter bike.
As the above poster stated go for the CRF 250R, the weight isn't the only difference they are entirely different bikes with the CFR 250R having way more power and a much better suspension.

What are you wanting for the 70?

Anybody here mod a pw50 for taller riders? Thinking about a bar setup and raise the seat to eliminate the dip. Daughter is going to be 8 and doesn’t want the 80, yet. Share pics if you got em!

I bought a brand new PW50 for 750.00 tax in when Yamaha had them on sale last year. It only has a few hours on it but my 5 year old loves it. I'll likely get close to the purchase price when I sell it in another year as well. Great little bikes to learn on before they step up to a clutched bike or one with gears.

My son was 7 last summer and the little 50 was having problems keeping up on the trail and making it up some hills. Before jumping him up to a bigger bike I decided to stick some money into his 50. My daughter will ride it this summer. I installed a attack handle bar kit, 60cc big bore kit, suspension extender, rear brake re-locate and plastic kit. Overall it made a big difference in the bike. I picked up a 110 and a snow ripper kit this last fall and he has been riding that this winter.

Can u pls explain how the suspension extends? And I see you dont have the top triple clamp, how doo the bars work

Sorry haven’t done any hight adjustment mods as my boys are taller than the average for their age. We picked up a kx 65 yesterday for the 7 soon to be 8 year old. And my 4 (soon 5) year old has been on pw 50 for the last 2 summers. The soon to be 5 year old will probably step up to the Honda crf50 this year.


But I did do the Qt 50 rear end mod to our pw and highly recommend it! It re gears the rear end lower and the bike has a lot more torque on the low end. Still plenty fast up top. It Climbs hills and gets moving way better. Finding the gear from the qt 50 moped is the tough part, but I believe there is a gear box mod now that accomplishes the same thing.

And upgraded foot pegs!

The handle bar kit replaces the top plate. When you order the kit it comes all pre assembled. Just bolt it on and go. The rear shocks are just extensions that go on the top of the shock. I think I didn't have the front fork extensions on in this pic. If I remember correctly they fit like sh** and didn't install them.

The big bore kit came with a oil injection delete, gear for transmission, ignition, muffler and power plate. There might be a few things I'm forgetting, my brain is still in sled mode!

My son is 7 and was going to get him a Honda 50 this year but am worried he will be too big for it by next year. He has experience on a bike but not a ton. Would you guys suggest a 50 or try and find a CRF 70 or 80?

crf 70 or 80 or PW 80 would probably be a better fit for longer but if buying a honda or yamaha you can pretty much sell them for what you paid for them if they are looked after
