XP update..... Options??

Well, the dealer found the leak, its what I'd suggested to them, the backing of the clutch cover to the transmission was warper and letting water in.

It's funny, they told me that 99% of the time the customer is wrong... Looks like 99% of the time service is wrong. :d

Ryan: I still want to get what my quad is worth if I trade. I don't want to go straight across for a 2011 XP (now that the problem is solved) for an older Brute.

Yes, the problem is solved but the parts are still on order. Can't wait to have a working quad!

Nice to hear they got it fixed. Sucks when you have anything new and you don't get to use it. Especially after spending the money these things cost. I'm sure you will have a good time with the power of the 850!

For sure, I already got a feel for the quad, and I love the power. 70 at the crank is addicting over my old Honda 4X4.

Now that I can actually take it in water... Priceless!

BTW: Quick update, the dealer said they would also silicone the housing to the trans for me and have 'er good to go. Saves me the work. It's nice to see a dealer go the extra mile, heck, I didn't even ask 'em to silicone it.

I wouldn't silicone it then how do you actually know the new housing isn't warped like old one? Or that it was the problem, you shouldn't have a bunch of silicone on a $$$$ bike IMO.

the proper way to secure the belt housing to the transmission is to silicone it. They come from the factory with silicone. So i would hope the dealer silicones the new one when they put it on.

The seals aren't the greatest on the XP, so I've heard, so silicone is in order. So long as I can ride it. I'm happy.

Yep, so I've been hearing. The factory seal is garbage and lets water past as well. They said it shouldn't leak with the new seal, but the silicone is for added protection.

i wouldn't silicone the 2 halves together. you will never get them apart again. I have never had issues with factory cover seals leaking.

Update... 4th time in the shop. This time I told 'em I didn't want it back, trading for a Brute. I guess that got 'em moving cuz they added extra RTV (they missed a spot... classic) But anyways, I picked it up today, and was told I got to let the RTV dry for 24 hours... So sunday will tell if their work paid off. Kinda sick of this, and I'm already talking about getting the 750i.

Anyways, to sum it up... If sunday I go through water and it gets into the clutch housing... You can bet monday morning I'll have a Red BruteForce 750i.

Wow, that sucks to have that type of issue with a new machine after repeated visits to the dealer. It's too bad, because the XP's really are a good machine. I ride a '10 850 with close to 2000 miles on it and it's never had water in the clutch. This is even after standing it on end in a three-foot deep river and flipping it over backwards (and ending up pinned under it - thank god for fast acting friends !!) in two feet of water. My son in law rides a Brute as well as some friends and we have swapped machines on various occassions. I will say the Brute is a nice machine, but I could never, ever give up the ride and EPS of my XP for a Brute. In the really tight, bumpy, heavily treed trails that we ride quite often, none of the Brute riders can keep up to the XP. At the end of the day, I'm less tired than guys twenty years younger who are riding Brutes. Not bashing them, they're just not for me and my tired old body.

Well, my XP works now, so thats great. Now all it needs is snorkels. :d
