The xp is definitly something that has to grow on a person especially comming off a M sled... few of my buddys ride xps and when i just on one of them from my m its a world of difference... but no matter what color it is they all feel somewhat different
Good luck :beer::beer:

I have never tried an m8 , but my xp is nimble and floaty in the deep you can carve with the slightest pressure on the rails, but on the hard pac or more set up snow you have to wrestle with it a bit.:d

Never rode an M8 but have rode an XP Chassis Summit for 3 years. Never had a problem hanging one ski in the air or keeping the sled up during a sidehill but have heard others have. The 2010 Summit skid allows for more weight transfer taking pressure off the ski's which has it's tradeoffs (trade effortless climbing for easy flat land handleing/low snow handling) the 2011 Summit has a narrower ski stance and a new ski which should allow the sled to carve easier without having to take all the weight off the front. Sort of like best of both worlds.

Depends on conditions I would say.

In blower pow, leaning over the XP is a cake walk. Laying the M series sled down in blower pow, also a cake walk.

As the pow thins out, the XP gets harder to roll over, whereas the M series stays just as easy to lay over.

Not saying an XP is hard to lay over, its just more difficult to get there than an M series.

Conversly, I find the M series sleds to make for a more interesting tandem to the top of stuff, as I find it more 'tippy'

In the end, a guy will get used to whatever he/she is riding after some time.

Just my experience, based on 08 models.

not had a chance to ride an M8 but did with an M1000.

im obviously used to my XP and it floats nicely. it does everything i expect from it when its expected. played on a friends M1000 for a few minutes... he didnt care for mine and i didnt care for his. loved the m1000 power though.

i found both machines to be so totally different in handling characteristics it wasnt even funny. it really comes down to what your used to i think. you just become one with whatever machine your on and learn to make it work for ya

hands down m8 in my books, my saddle time is limited on the xp but thats basically cause i love the way the m rides and didnt care for the xp so i really have no interest in puttin more time on one. But to each his own,,,im the only guy in our group that rides the ac, everbody else is on revs or xp so they obviously work for them

I owned an 08 163x and have always been a doo guy hated that thing from the minute I rode it the first time tried to get used to it 500 miles ish. Sold and went to a M8 there is no comparison. I have not been a cat guy ever but the technical moves you can make on an M are exactly what I was looking for. In my opinion the M beats the xp in almost every way. But that being said I am not an aggressive climber and much prefer boondocking and tree riding.

I have been holding off on saying this but you really need to rent and try out an xp before crossing the abyss.

Also I don't have any time on the 09 or newer xp's which are supposed to be improved.

i got to spend alot of time on alot of different machines this season. all brands current within the last 2 years. the xp chassis just felt the best to me. the cat is old technology.
i could ride it well but it didnt seem any easier than the xp.

Not saying that the m is better than the xp it is just my personal opinion that I prefer the m tried the xp with all the tweaks like swaybars, limiter strap adj etc. All I am saying is before he makes the expensive commitment to switch he should rent for a day and make his own decision, because he will get different opinions all over the place on this.
