Xp Gear Ratio

I took apart my sled today to change my track to a 2.5 lugs Camo Extreme 154". My gear ratio is 18/45??? Is this right? What do other people have and how do they work. My machine is a 08 800R with a 154" track. I have a DJ clutch kit with mountain ramps (where I ride most, 6000') a RK tek 13.5 to 1 head and timbersled intake. I have read other threads where people are running 20/45 or close but never 18/45. Any advice would be appreciated.

I'm not a fan of any gear smaller than a 19t on the top...starts to bend the chain pretty tight. Stock 163 gearing is 21/49 (2.33)...so I would think a 20/45 or 19/45 would be sufficiently low for a 154x2.5 track.

18 tooth is bad news. broke 3 chains a season when i ran an 18 tooth.

19 or better yet 20+ if possible.

if you want a cheap solution run 19/45 or else pick up a larger chain and bottom gear and go with a 21/47 or something similar.

also what drivers are you running? if they are the 7 tooth then run a 20/45

I'd think with the head you should be able to pull 20/45 or at least 19/45. I'd look at your clutching? Power valves?(mine was ripped to shreds) I think your losing power somewhere if thats all you can pull. Assuming stock drivers?

I am running stock drivers. And my machine pulls hard and has never missed a beat. Think I may try 19/45 to see if there is something I am missing. Clutch is good, I believe, 16.9 grams in each arm and pulling 8200 rpm on clicker 5 with DJ ramps. I would have never guessed 18/45 in my gearing. Good to know what others are running.

If your on clicker 5 and your sure its all good. I'd think about the 49 bottem to try and straighten out the "pork chop" the chain turns into with that small of a gear for the same reasons as above. The 154 2.5 I ride with, I forgot is running a Team tied secondary so maybe his clutching is that different?:confused:

Clicker 5 is what is recommended from Dynamo Joe with his mountain ramps and my set up(From him). The low gearing is what concerned me. If I can get more track speed and not have negative effects that would be good. Straightening out the chain as well.

holy smokes you running the prototype 5 inch track?

treeboy likely isn't running stock clutching either....maybe someone's secret clutching???

We have two sleds set up with 20/51. Stock drivers. Not your average clutching. These things run like raped apes through the trees. Hold very good consistant speeds when climbing as well.

On a 2.5" with DJ's clutching I would run a 20/49. You can get 49's from guys who ran 163's.

Lots of people ran 19/45 in their 08's to help cure some belt heat issues. It was an early "fix". 19 and especially an 18 is harsh.

if it works good for you i wouldnt touch it:). (my 2011 xp sp is 21/45 but might be switching it to 19/45 with a can :d im a bigger guy)

here are the specs according to Skidoo. My 163 has the 19T and looks like the chain could loose a link.

21 (146 in)
20 (154 in)
19 (163 in)
