Hello

Im looking for information on extending an XP 154 to a 163. Please post if you have done this swap. What did you use and how did it turn out with cooling, fit and finish etc.

Pictures would be awesome.

Thank you

I did this swap on my sled. Used Ice age (Timbersled) rails, Van Amburg tunnel extension. I run 7 tooth drivers because i am running a 2.5 lug. Changed to a 20t top gear with DJ clutching. I think thats everything. I dont have pics because the project isn't finished yet but hopefully in the next week or two i will have something for you to see.

Don't worry about the cooling. You are only adding 4" of overall length.

VE has a nice extension for about $200 US. You will have to figure out if and how you will run a tail light and snow flap off that.

The IceAge rails are nice. Check out their website. There are a few guys who have done this.

You can get a 2.86 pitch 163/16 wide Xtreme 2.5, so maybe PistonBroke has a further suggestion as to why he ran the 7 tooth for the 2.5, but I would believe there shouldn't be any issues.

On a side note, if you wanted to sell that 2010 skid to recoup some costs I'd be interested! :d

Only real reason is that i got a second had track for cheap. It is a 3'' pitch and i dont think there is enough room to get past the front cooler with the 8 tooth drivers. Im pretty sure i have heard of guys running the 8 tooth drivers with a 2.5'' but it is very close.

Yep you should have nothing like hanging skis in the air for as long as you want!:d:d:d:d:d:d:d:d

except riding a far superior chassis........that was the deal breaker in my decision. I loved my m1000, but cannot go back to that chassis after the xp. Just my prefferance

if you like using a feeler guage to measure the clearance. use a 2.86 8 tooth.

also a 3.0p is better in deep snow than a 2,86 pitch. its not much difference but it is a bit

Hey guys, so I am thinking of putting a 163 on my 154 08 summit as well. If I put a challenger 163" 2.5 , 2.86 on, then I shouldn't have to change drivers, correct? Is there a big difference from a Challenger 2.5 or to just use a stock 163 track from Ski-doo? I know the 08 Challenger lite tracks are not good but what about an 09, 10, or 11? Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks

You could do that, but as maxwell put it your gonna need a feeler gauge to check the clearence between your paddles and your front cooler. Get a 163X2.5X16 with 3'' pitch. Change to 7 tooth drivers. You will be happy you did. Or you could always get a drop chain case and keep with the 8 tooth drivers but that is a lot more cash.

If you do the 3.0 7t drivers you have more clearance than stock even with a 2.5'' track i'm told, it gears it a bit lower so you just need to get a 21-49 gear set up and probably a chain. The paddles on the 3.0 track go all the way to the edge of the track, if you go the cheap route with the 2.86 then the track paddles won't go all the way to the edge of the belt and yes the 2.5 makes a difference over the stock ported 2.25 a big difference over the 154'' CL track.

ya also with the 2.86 only being 15 wide paddles you loose...

1 square foot of surface digging into the snow...

doesnt sound like alot BUT it actually is.

think about 1sqft digging into the snow. it will make a big difference..

i dont think the 2.86 162 2.5 would be any better than the 2.25 162 2.86 stock track

Pistonbroke, the tight area is in the top of the tunnel as the cooler has lots of clearence.
Have 2000 miles on a 2.5 x 174 x 16 and 8 tooth 3 inch drivers and no problems at all.
The area in the top of the tunnel is close but no track rubbing. Just my findings

Nothing at all? I have two parallel black marks about 8'' long on the bottom side of my tunnel near the front caused by track rub. Are you looking for clearance at the top or bottom of the front cooler?

How loose of a track are you running?I run mine so there is about 2 inch's of drop when sled is lift up on sled lift.
I am not looking for any clearance at the top or bottom of the front heat exchanger.
With smaller drivers you have to watch the front mounting area of the skid as the track will hit the skid wear plates or rods as it is very close.
Have used the smaller drivers but didn't see any performance gain other than it geared it down.
Just my findings. Each to there own.

Cheers :)

Same here! 3" paddles with the 7 tooth Avid drivers. top of tunnel is the closest point. this can be mitigated by dropping the front suspension down about 1-1/2" and Smitty's drop brackets in the rear. :)

I also stretched this to 162 from a 154 so I am running 21/45 gearing. ALL of the people I talked to about this said it would be too tall gearing but it really works and this year I will be trying out 22/45.
