So, I finally got out for a ride today in the Kakwa area with a friend. Crappy conditions but it was all new area for me. After we played in the trees in Flattop, we headed back the way we came to see if we could find some sunshine.

As we retracked our path out we came to one big hill that we had passed on the way in. We had just seen a guy on the hill and we were off to the side behind a knoll.

As my friend starts to explain to me not to ride on that hill as he's watched it slide right in front of him, and rode past it numerous times and seen that it had slid, we started to watch as first one guy gets stuck turning out on that very hill, and then withing a minute there's two more guys climbing around him.

So we ride up onto the knoll to have a look from a fairly safe spot and we watched as the group of 5-6 guys continuously climbed the hill. 2, 3, 4 guys at a time. Then we watched as four more guys came and joined them and now it was 5, 6, and I think at one point 7 guys all climbing the same face.

And where's the best place to park while waiting for your turn to climb? Why where better than right at the bottom of the hill at the start of the runout chute?!

Absolutely unbelievable! Yes I agree, you may not realize that the hill is a bad slider, especially if you don't look at the trees around you or the huge runout chute, so I suppose that can be excused perhaps, but to be all on the hill and parked facing uphill at the very bottom of the hill is just plain dumb.

There is NO excuse for that many sleds climbing on 1 hill. None what so ever.
I was just in West Yellowstone, and sitting at the bottom of a hill, i went and climbed the hill only to turn around at the highest point to see that all but 2 guys from my group followed me up the hill. Almost hit the 1 guy when I turned around cause he was so close to me. :nono:

No good:nono: One at a time! We just got done with a storm cycle. 60 inches in the mountains in 4 days. Watched a bullchit hill slide naturally today that I wouldn't even consider a threat. You never know. Gotta be careful!

Natural forces have a way of thinning the herd....eventually stupid ass behaviour will get them killed. Which brings another question to mind. So you're watching these Jack asses do their thing and right in front of you all hell breaks loose and they're caught in a slide. Are we supposed to risk life and limb by getting involved in the search and putting ourselves in harm's way? I'm pretty sure most of us would...but myself,,,I'm not so sure. I've seen so much "Death By Stupidity" in 21 years of firefighting that I've completely lost my patience with Idiots!

Then you become a dead hero trying to dig these guys out when a second av comes down on your head. This all could have been avoided.

Ignorance is not bliss. I've seen a slide on my third or fourth time out ever, two years ago and it was a very experienced rider that set it off. Not a large one, but big enough to open my eyes. I'll take all the education someone is willing to give, but I still see potential for trouble no matter who you are.
