i probably wouldnt of called the cops, but im glad you did. i travel that highway quite a bit, seen people dead on that highway, been stopped for hours because of accidents. some people need to smarten the eff up and think about others on the roads, not just themselves.

I commend you for not only having the balls to see something wrong and step up to the plate and deal with it and then on top of that open yourself up on here for people to judge if what you did was right or wrong.Being the guy to make the call to the police is for sure a hard call because right from when we are children it is bred into us not to be the tattle tale,rat etc..Everybody likes to say the police don't do anything etc etc,but bottom line is they can only do so much (trust me I bitch when I get a speeding ticket too) and every bit of help they get I am sure is appreciated.I don't think we have to have them on speed dial but when it comes to things that endanger you and/or other people for sure..
After all I am sure that if it were a case of someone outside stealing a sled there wouldn't be anyone on here that would have an issue about calling them.

It seems like for safety reasons he did need new or newer tires but when does calling the police stop or do we call the police for every infraction we see on the road that may be unsafe and if so they would be swamped with calls and not able to take the real trouble makers off the streets.

They are too busy writing seatbelt fines you now THE DANGEROUS CRIMINAL TYPES!!. I know they are busy and do make a difference , just seems they are never there when they are needed. I know lotsa RCMP members they are only people some are good some are.........
Lots of what they look for is dictated by ICBC too. Love the scale stings they have accomplish not much but increase revenues with fines. And rant off before i really get going MUAHAHHAHAHHAHAHA
Oh and you did the right thing calling. I spend countless hours on the highway, during the shittiest of conditions, and i have made the call many times. Like my buddy says " You can,t fix stupid"

You for sure made the right call. I had a friend a few years ago with an old firefly he bought for a Big Mac meal after traveling. Well he was coming down a hill to a set of lights and the light was red and he couldn't stop. So he jumped out of the car, watched it sail through the intersection, ran after it and hopped back in. That's when some guy in a truck pulled up and said "Bought time to get some better tires there Stallone" He went straight to a Kal Tire from there...

In BC they sure do! I can't believe how many bad accidents we respond to where tires are definitely a contributing factor. Summer and Winter. This past Summer I watched a young smart ass kid right in front of me, jump the sidewalk and wrap his hot little 200sx around a bus stop sign because he took off from the light too fast on a wet road, put the car into a fishtail and couldn't recover. Totalled his car. Tires had maybe 5% tread left, front and rear.

You definitely made the right decision.... You can't justify the safety and value of a person's life against $1,000 for a set of new tires. I won't run my tires much below 30% for that reason... it's just not worth risking ina low-traction situation.

i worked in a lube bay years back and phoned the dot and the scales more than a few times! simple question: what if? fill in your own variables: wife,mother,father,sister,best friend,kids etc.....oncoming or following....
head on, truck spins out and gets thrown back into your lane? what if you can stop but the person behind you isnt paying attention? tires are cheap, life is not.
