Its actually unbelievable the amount of closures that happen as a result of those guys, I live between Sicy and Revy and i believe the majority of the accidents and road closures around 3 valley gap have been caused by these guys. and you never see them pulled over being ticketed and they drive with absolute disregard for others on the road, I have heard this same conversation a hundred times and most opinions are the same. the big problem I have is that when these guys cause an accident they typically come out unscathed unless its with another transport, but in many situations the person or people in the other vehicle aren't so lucky.... and it seems to be getting worse not better over the years. I know its not all transport drivers and I've seen my fair share of good ones but they seem like a dying breed. I feel like giving some of these guys a licence is a licence to kill.

Take comfort in the impending introduction of the self driving truck.

I believe that the standard of a professional driver has lowered over the years. There is still a ton of pride in that industry but some of the drivers are not up for the challenge and they ruin it for the rest of the professionals.
Just my opinion (am not a driver).

Yep it’s getting unbelievable. Last trip to Sicy had one of these “professionals” pull out in front of me. He clearly saw me coming at highway speed and couldn’t wait 10 seconds. Pretty sad.

I see the same thing every week on my trips between Sicamous and Calgary. It is getting worse and no enforcement at all. Very few can take a corner on their side. Twice this year I have had a semi coming at me traveling east passing another in the westbound pasing lane.

One of the biggest issues is there pay scale also, Government needs to force hourly pay to the non owner operators as the km rate
is making guys drive like retards My son drives thru there twice a week and says it ridiculous how fast some guys want to drive
He is one of the lucky one that gets paid by the hour so doesnt stress out when construction/maintainence delays his deliveries
this may add to the cost of business but may need to be looked at also

I drive from Salmon Arm to Revy every week and the lack of respect from the transport drivers is mind blowing. The centre line used to mean something but now it seems to be a loose suggestion as I have trucks cross it at me at least twice per trip. It's easy to only blame the new Canadian drivers but I see a lot of white faces in the cabs doing the same thing. The police and CVSE need to get serious about cracking down on this section of highway I nearly never see either between 3 Valley Gap and Sicamous which is the worst section.
I get sick of all the professional drivers chiming in to say "oh it's not us it's the 4 wheelers" in most places I'll agree as if you look at commercial vehicle involvement in accidents it's a very low percentage across the province but I guarantee on the Hwy 1 stretch between Kamloops and the Alberta border it's much much higher especially if you focus on the fatalities. It seems like it's been closed at least once per week and sometimes more than that for a fatality this year. When is enough?

Why does it feel like the worst drivers on the Trans Canada now adays are the "professional truck drivers".

Really need to watch these clowns they have gotten exponentially worse in the last year.

I’d add gravel truck drivers on qe2 and new Canadians in minivans to the list, along with the semis that are being piloted by camel jockeys that were herding goats 6 monthe ago came to Canada got a bogus class one and are trying to tackle the Coquihalla first run. I try stay away from trucks at all times.

Just because someone has a class1 doesn't make them a professional driver. Same goes for a class 5. All it means is that based on the expectations they are able to pass a test.

If I had to do hwy hauls I would find something else to do. I must say the traveling public has no regard for the big trucks on the road and it causes many accidents as well.

I came across a really good driver a couple years ago. It was just past Lake Louise when they were working on the divided highway. The highway had just been divided to 2 lanes in each direction with a concrete divider in the middle. It was snowing hard and I was stuck behind a semi. I pulled out to pass him and he cut me off taking up both lanes. I was pissed. Then as I tried for a second time, he pulled in front again. As I sharply pulled back behind him a car whizzed past me in the opposite direction on our side of the concrete divider. It would have been a head on collision for sure if the trucker had not held me back. I went from very angry to very thankful. I try to remember this when I come across other drivers that seem like A-holes.

Big difference between the guys that just came down the log road and took his chains off for the second time that day, the old leather faced long haul driver who's 50 looks like he's 75 lights one smoke off the other and carries piss jugs than the rest of them(general pansies) who don't know the limits of there truck but can't help themselves in a bind little own someone else.

Not al drivers are A-holes and some are really good. Automation will take care of some issues regarding truck operation but would not help in this case. Another idea that is becoming cheap enough is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJDZ-_AGhvw

No idea how you would keep it snow free. Maybe an enhanced vision system for your vehicle? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DR9lyAM2YNE

Would love to see the automated truck chain itself up in a snow storm coming through the pass from Creston. The may have their place down south on 4 wide freeways and flat ground but show me one that is capable of hauling in Canada in the winter.

The drivers aren't the only ones to blame. Many of these big companies don't train proper and that leaves the driver not knowing. Anyone who has ever take the driving course will tell you that they don't teach you to drive. They teach you to pass a test.

I will give props to Tri-Can for a much better training program then most. And believe me I'm not a big fan of Tri-Can
