I'm looking east instead of west to get some sort of a ride in this year. Now before you tell me this belongs in the Sask. thread I realize that but I'm looking for traffic.

Can anybody tell me anything about riding around Hudson Bay. I have no clue. Where would a guy stay, unload, all that good stuff.

Tell me what you know.

A little clarification is needed Dean. Is it Hudson Bay, SK or the Hudson Bay that is in northern Manitoba?

If it is Hudson Bay, SK, Rotax_Kid would have lots of information for you.

Hudson Bay, MB would be very cool but I don't no if thats even possible. That would be very cool.

I was looking at East Sk. Nipawan, Hudson Bay, Duck Mountain in Manitoba. That general area.

I'm located in Prince Albert and we are just on the edge/beginning of where the good snow starts. the further east and north you go from here the snow gets better and better. Pretty easy to find headlight deep snow with a few set-up layers underneath. I personally haven't sledded out in Hudson Bay( our riding group has spoke of it many times though).

I frequently check out the Sask Snow conditions often when we have snow storms in the area. Gives a guy and idea of where it has fallen. Hudson Bay is a very sled friendly town and I doubt the Delegate would be upset if you were to ask him questions about staging areas, lodging and trails...

This area has been showing good snow reports as well. Lots of trail and muskeg flats\opening to play in .

I am originally from Hudson Bay and my dad is the groomer operator there. If you stay at any of the motels (Treeline or Norwood) you can stag right from the hotel. Treeline is probably the better hotel and its right next to the groomed trails. You can also easily ride your seld to both gas stations so no issue there. Hell you can even drive the sled to the bar if you want. The treeline might also let you store your sled indoors (I have heard).

If your budget allows I have heard good things about Jackpine Cabins, Fir River B&B, and Spruceville Cabins. I have never stayed in any but have heard nothing but good things about them. I also know most of them pretty well. Jackpine is on the edge of town so a little better for gas and access to amenities. The others are few miles out of town but not a bid deal. I think they all offer indoor storage.

There is lots of places to ride. I would recommend a trip to Weekes Bar for a steak. You can go one way and come back another. Also Bankside Lake is a personal favorite and the snow tends to be better north of town. Others include going up into the hills to Moose Range Lodge although it can make for a long day (not sure if they have fuel up there anymore so be prepared).

Snow is decent although it has been a little cold.

What about off Trail stuff. Is this a big no no or can a guy jump off any time you like. Is the terrain flat as a pancake or can a guy that rides BC almost exclusively find a bump or two to satisfy a catwalk up hill.

It is not flat at all compared to some parts of Saskatchewan. The Wildcat hills are north of town and the Pasqua hills are east of town so this is a fair bit of elevation change. Its not like riding in the mountains by any means. I would probably be similar riding in Whitecourt for the most part. Most of the trails are through solid bush and not through the fields.

The only time they want you to stay on the trail is when the trail is on private farmland and in town and the by the golf course (mostly leading out of town). Once in the bush you can go anywhere. There are lots of swamps, sloughs, lakes, etc to go play on. They have several warm up shelters as well if you want to take a break.

I was there a couple of years back and they easily had 2 feet of powder in some of the off trail areas.
