Winter specific truck tires

The Coopers that Allseasons mentioned would have the M+S rating. M+S or Snowflake is the requirement, some have both which I do not see as a bad thing.

Agreed, my point being that at least on of these symbols must be present on the tire, carrying chains no longer covers you according to the law if these symbols aren't present.
Stupid as it is my toyo MT's are M+S rated so I'm good to go the way the rules are written.

Haha yeah doesn't that give you the warm fuzzy feeling....
Good tire, but they are like Bambi on ice.

I'm struggling to decide on tires also. I've been running dedicated winter tires on our vehicles for several years and always recommended others to as well. On my trucks I've used the Hurculese both studded and not and studded Nokian Hakka LT most recently. I traded in my Ford for a new Dodge this spring so I sold my winter wheels and am now debating running just one tire year round.
I like the tread of the Duratrac but not the rest of the tire...
One that caught my eye is the new Falken Wildpeak AT3W but they don't offer it in a size I want. I might just buy it in stock size (275/70R18) and give them a try. Otherwise I'm looking at probably the Toyo AT2 in 285/75R18 or the ST MAXX or Exo Grappler in 295/70R18 but I'd rather not go wider than 285 if I can help it.
Thoughts?

As far as I'm aware you have to have M+S or snowflake rated tires on all pickups in BC now, carrying chains isn't enough anymore, this changed October 1, 2015.

Most all seasons have the m +S stamp....the hard one to find is the symbol that looks like a snow flake

I ran nokian hakks on my 1/2 ton and hands down they were the best winter tire ive ever run. I waning to pick up a set for my 1 ton. I ran druatracs last year and IMO they were JUNK on ice compared to my hakks (mind you the duraracs were 315's a wide tire don't help on ice).

I really like the AT2 for summer and off road. For winter I thought they were not very good on packed snow or ice at getting the 1 ton moving, and certainly not for stopping it! Just one mans opinion.

Good to know, thanks. I was very impressed with the Hakka's on packed snow and ice and I don't want to be completely hopeless on icy roads, but I'd like to have a bit more bite in the deeper stuff...

I do know someone running the ST Maxx and they like them. I hadn't previously looked at the XT4's but will thanks

I run a set of ST Maxx in the summer and Duratracs in the winter right now. The ST Maxx is decent in the winter but I definitely not near as good as the duratracs on ice/hard packed snow. I know some people have wear issues with them, but I cant complain about mine. I have ~50k on them and they are a little under half tread.

Yeah I liked the Duratracs when new, after one long season, maybe two max and considering that is about 12,000kms of winter driving per season I don't find they last. I guess its too much to ask to have good all around traction and longevity from the tire.

The Toyo CT's are still my top contender. The price of them is also the highest but I guess if thats what I consider the best.

Fountain tire has good price on duratrac right now but I also get great deal on coopers so... Decisions decisions
2 sets is good excuse for fancy rims for summer?? Lol

I just got a quote from Canadian tire on studded duratracs 275/70/18 for 1386 out the door including their extra tire warranty. Apparently the warranty is pretty good as they will replace all four of your tires if one is unrepairable within five years. They aren't prorated either. You do have to pay for mounting and balancing the replacement tires, but still pretty cheap insurance for 12.99 a tire.

The duratracs are 25% off at crappy tire until tomorrow I believe.

Best tire I've ever had are the nitto exo grapplers with studs ... they don't last long in the summer thou

Put winters on stock wheels?



Or put winters on Fuel after markets? They have seen a little abuse from my last truck.



Both are 20". Stock are 20x8 with 6.75" back spacing, Fuel are 20x9 with 5.75" back spacing and a little less positive offset so they don't really stick out much more than stock.

I just returned home with a set of 5 used studded Nokians (80%+ remaining) for a pretty darn good deal so that solves my winter tire dilemma. I'm searching for a second set of factory 18" wheels now for cheap 😆
