Wet and slushy down low. Trail is disappearing. Higher up we found lots of new snow, but it is setting up very fast. Mostly wet heavy stuff. Not nearly as good as the reports make it sound. A few nice areas left if you look hard enough, but the trail sucks

I have to agree. Put on a lot of miles yesterday looking for the imaginary 60 cm of fresh, never found it. Definitely need to stage up high and one of the people i work with just got back from skiing Fernie and he said it was like skiing mashed potatoes with all the rain.

Thanks guys. I was thinking of bringing the sled with me to Lethbridge to check out castle but not anymore. You guys just saved me extra gas money from towing and a wasted day chasing this 'magical' 66cm. Now i get an extra two days to golf !! :d

ITS April who needs a trail,,, I could care less about any trail they suck when they are groomed lol....


damn ski hills make the 50cms sound so big but in springtime it condenses quickly and becomes a lil mushy...


I know any day on the hill is better than any day in the city,,,,

OK Gang here is the honest snow report from the area.

1) Sledded Monday in the Rolling Hills. Staged from the power line. When we left the truck their was 2-3 inches on the road, it was like sleet coming down.
We climbed the powerline all the way into Hidden. Snow was about 5-6 inches
when we left the power line. Upon arrival into Hidden, could not see a darn thing , but went to the top and their was about 6-8 inches.

Left and went all the way around into the rolling hills. ( Did not want to go up the chutes out of Secret .

In the hills we found around 8-10 inches at best, but it was fun in the trees.
Snow was very heavy but up over 6000ft, it was a bit better.

Drove out at 5PM and it had snowed and sleeted and rained all day depending at what elevation you were at. Definately fun, but visibility sucked.
Definately did not see any snow over 10 inches all day, and most was 6-8.



2) Day 2 Tuesday March 30. Looked at the Castle snow report and thought
Bull Sh-it, so didn't head out that way. So went back to the power line and into the rolling hills. Early day was bad visibility and snowing down lower than the day before. Played in the trees and creek beads all day long. Hit some pockets of 16-18 inches and had a blast ( Mostly 10-12). Later in the day it cleared off a bit
and we headed into the rolling hills from the top of Secret down the nub and into the trees. It was fun and had a foot of snow. Headed out at 6:30
Good day, fairly heavy snow but some soft pockets. Snow is quite rotten in spots below fresh. Heading out thru the trees was really good with no tracks.


3) Day 3, man am I sore. Well Castle says they had 85 over the past 2 days, so lets try south castle. Yikes the road from Beaver lake up to font SUCKS. have to drive as far as you can until creak crossing stops you dead.

Snow on the road in the AM. Rode up to font and up towards the divide. As you climbed we went from 4 inches at the font creek crossing at the bottom to a foot up top. Had some fun in the bowls up their but their is no snow!!!!!!
Probed 5 feet max with that 1 new foot and is the snow ever rotten below. Get stuck and . Usually that range gets more snow than Castle does, so I have no idea where that 85 CM'S was. I talked to a friend that said he was up their yesterday and it was OK , but he sure did not see amnything close to more than a foot, except in the trees wher maybe 1 1/2 max.
South Castle on the way out SUCKED as the snow that melted showed us about 1 KM total of bare spots if not more to the truck which was about 12-14 KM in.

So their you have an honest report.

I have heard that the Riolling Hills have 2 1/2 feet. I didn't see it
But it was a fun week.

Going North of Elkford tommorrow.

Be safe out their this weekend

PS: Watch out for the NE facing slopes as some big Poop is a comin down in some spots.

I just talked to a buddy that was back at the notch and over to the east. today. He said in the trees it was great and that their was 2 -3 feet. That means 1-1/2 Max. I think people get excited and they honestly think that is what is there. Also when you trench thru the 1 foot of powder and into the rotten snow under the crust thir is 3 feet and in some cases yesterday 4 feet
that sucks to get out of.

Thats the most honest report i have ever heard. Thanks Mc. I always reference how high on my leg the snow comes instead of trying to guess in feet.

Just pulling into crowsnest. Looks pretty socked in to the west. Driving through to fernie. Hopefully we can see when we get there.

Maclintock, what did you find north of Elkford? I noticed that the Fording Lookout had snow on it this morning.

We went west and the results are in: (these measurements include settling and were taken today April 2nd) Koko Claims 10", Mear Lake 16", back of Mear Lake 18", Secret Meadow (it isn't a secret, that's the name of the place) 16", Bull River Junction 8" of crusty and Smith Basin 8". The snow was a little heavy and some was crusty but past Smith turnoff it was untracked all the way over to the Bull. The best was the top of Mear Lake (7200') and you can see the snow dust in the pictures from Mear Lake. Couldn't get that ski very high with the ankle pain that remains.
