Some very different looking avalanche debris....surely those criss-crossing tracks aren't sled tracks?

Any body look at bc hiway cams lately. it is absolutely dumping in fernie right now. This is the morrisey camera

Had a great time in Fernie today. Staged at Moressy and rode up to the notch. Windy as usual. From there we went to the left and played in the trees. One large avy, not very old by the looks of it. When your in the valley bottom looking up to where you drop in it was just to the left of that. Should have grabbed a picture but was having to much fun in the trees. Maybe 6" to a foot of nice soft powder to play in. Was a blast. We also played on the opposite side of the pipeline and found lots of go anywhere hero snow.

Coming back down the trail to Morresy I hit a couple of rutts in a corner I should have slowed down for and bit it hard. Can't turn my head to the left right now but a couple beer and I'm still smilin from today.

And I don't know how to spell Morissey.

we had a good day,, about a foot of fluff,,,,, some nice drifts and pulls to be had.

parking in morrissey at km24ish... trailers at 22km,,, cat skiers are still out so dont block the road

Weeeee. We had fun yesterday.

Some spots had localized snow of decent amounts. Some a bit thin. Overall, a good day was had by everybody.

Some of those stucks had me wondering what you guys were doing =) The one guy that we met out there went straight into that tree. Hahah. I laughed. Otherwise a quite skilled rider.

Its the same as last night, I think the ski hill has a snow gun set up on the hill behind the camera LOLOLOLOL

There is some funny looking things around barnes lake to,looks like it slid onto the lake and there was a wierd crack above shore line wisk i would have took a pic thou.We looked down on it from limestone side.

I'm not saying this is the case this year as I haven't seen a picture but I have seen enough snow come down, smash the ice, and raise it up along the shore quite high. Actually saw that evidence in Barnes and Elliot a few years ago.

I figured out that when the avi's are rolling in Elliot, sitting on the ice and watching is not a safe spot. Get into the trees on the opposite side and watch the action form there.

about 5 years ago barnes slid and heaved the ice up about 30 feet and flooded the lower medow completely out, wouldnt want to be anywhere near there when that happens. we figure we were there about 5 hrs later cause it wa starting to freze up again

i've heard of the same thing happening at forester, i believe it was at whirlpool. sitting out of the path of the avalanche doesn't always mean you are out of the way of the destruction....

Maclintock, what did you find north of Elkford? I noticed that the Fording Lookout had snow on it this morning.

We went west and the results are in: (these measurements include settling and were taken today April 2nd) Koko Claims 10", Mear Lake 16", back of Mear Lake 18", Secret Meadow (it isn't a secret, that's the name of the place) 16", Bull River Junction 8" of crusty and Smith Basin 8". The snow was a little heavy and some was crusty but past Smith turnoff it was untracked all the way over to the Bull. The best was the top of Mear Lake (7200') and you can see the snow dust in the pictures from Mear Lake. Couldn't get that ski very high with the ankle pain that remains.

Hey Fernie, I never ended up going as we went quading instead. I talked to a friend last night that was up playing in the Mear lake area and said it was fun and yes he said a foot to foot and a 1/2.

Was out yesterday in the Rolling hills and then Secret and Hidden and back into ( No Name) a bowl we found earlier this year off the back of Hidden

Weird, I got kicked off, anyways in all the areas I was in it Snowed heavy all day. Probably up to a foot in some areas in the rolling hills where we found 1 - 1 1/2 feet of fresh in a few areas and it was a BLAST. Other areas up high in the rolling hills (Saddle) wind had really picked up and maybe 6 inches up high.
The trees were awesome all day wherever we went with similar conditions of 1 - 1 1/2 feet.

When we got into Secret and then Hidden their was pretty much 1 foot everywhere and not a single person in their at all. same though at the top of Hidden going back to unnamed bowl that the wind had taken and maybe 6-8 inches.

No Name Bowl was the best as we hit pockets of 2 feet and the drop in was very easy as the snow was so deep it slowed your descent quite nice at the edge of the trees where normally you fly ( Cheater chains a must). definately stayed away from Chutes in Secret and dropped in at the far Easterly end off the nub.

Pretty much played in the trees and creek beds all day.

Probably the best conditions I rode in all season going way back to the beginning of December.
