Will this cover UPS' Extortion fees?

Would that include their brokerage fees?

Like the others have said, you never know with UPS over here. I refuse to buy from anybody in the States that will only ship UPS because I've been burned by them bastages too many times. UPS sucks or maybe it's me that does cause I still haven't been able to wash the awful taste outta my mouth.............................

Yep, USPS is the only way to go for Stateside merchandise. I bought a pair of hiking boots from the states ( almost half the price that they were selling them for up here) - Gets to the door and I end up with brokerage fees, etc, over and above the shipping costs. The shipping ended up costing as much as the boots....friggin UPS and FedEx

I got a tracking # from UPS and called to clear my items at the CBSA office. They said it was being shipped to Kentucky.. The item was from Cali... WTF?

I emailed the supplier, because there was an "edmonton" in Kentucky also.. LOL and didn't want him to ship my headlights there by mistake. He said that they ship free anywhere in the lower 50 so they ship to ebay and ebay ships to me.

Everytime I've been shipped stuff via UPS, I've been screwed by brokerage. Hard.
Fedex costs a bit more but at least you know the fees before it shows up-no extra brokerage.
Other than that I USPS to myself, or Fedex to my buddies shop and pay him-his company has a broker so the fees are covered. Usually......

I too have been screwed by UPS on "fees" on orders from the US. However there is a way around it sort of. I once ordered an Edge monigtor for my truck. I told the vendor to send it USPS becasue I did not want to pay UPS fees. They said no problem they would send it UPS Air because then UPS does not charge any fee's. When it arrived at the door, sure enough, no fees. UPS Air may be a good alternative for small packages.

I was told by my UPS dude, theres a form that us retailers have to fill out for Canadian import and if they fill it out properly then there's usually no extra charges, but if they don't fill it out (which they don't out of lasziness) then UPS has to do and charge accordingly. thats because they have no legal ground to enforce you to pay. By law, they need to give you the option to use their services or your own. Been down that path with them before and the acknowledged that they never gave me that option. So, no more nasty calls/letters. They figure that probably 9 out 10 people would just pay and continue this practice.

A package arrives, you are not home of course to receive it, it goes to the UPS office. They have the parcel and you refuse to pay? How do you get your parcel?

I had ordered a programmer from auto anything and when I was bill the brokage fee, they called ups and got the fee return to me. Auto anything said ups was trying to pull a fast one. I do agree that uses is the way to go.

You're only getting half the story. If the item is manufactured in Canada the US or Mexico it falls under NAFTA. If you can get the vendor to provide a NAFTA certificate of origin then you won't be on the hook for any duty. But you still will be on the hook for brokerage fees (and GST) which pay for someone's time to register and clear your shipment with us customs. The reason there is no charge for brokerage on express shipments is it's already built into the prices. Express is often double or triple the cost of ground freight.

As stated above USPS is the way to go if you can afford to wait up to 3 weeks for your merchandise. Technically USPS (actually Canada Post) should be charging at least duty and GST but both the US and Canadian postal systems are so eff'd you often end up getting a deal.

Wish they had to say these fees upfront! I ordered an Avi beacon thinking I was saving $75 and it shows up with $50 brokerage... What the hell??! Crooks, can I deny the package and have the seller refund me? I've never paid more then $15 duty on bulkier more expensive items in the past.

Cuso do you ever go down to the US? We have a couple of US shipping addresses that we use to ship our US vendors products to as well as some personal stuff. The receiver usually charges a small fee to receive but that is it. Then we broker the stuff across ourselves it falls under our business stuff or our personal exemption amounts.

I have found UPS won't hand over the goods until you pay the extortion fee, Fed Ex sends the bill for brokerage in the mail. right into the trash it goes
