I think us S&M guys and gals should go a lounge and half of us drink two drinks and the other half drink one drink and perhaps we can get a RCMP/EPS officer to assist with the percentages we blow. No point using a device you can buy or someone elses, because the police are going to use the ones they have...... I think half the problem is we don't know if you can have one or two and still pass? does anyone really know....

After the test we can see who blows the highest........game on!!!!!

and then take cabs home!!!

the machine you used was flawed........as someone who has gotten an impaired at a young age i can tell you 100% that at 135lbs (which i was) 3 drinks will put you over the limit....how soon after you drank did you take the test? your body needs time to absorb after my impaired charge i was sent into a 2 day class about drinking and driving. here is a chart that shows the %'s

this is the same one they use in the course, and lets be realistic here, when out with friends who is drinking 1 drink/hr

When this was broght in in BC I had friends concerned over a beer or wine with supper. One of them bought their own breathanalyser and we dii some testing. lol

I was really suprised to see how low the numbers reallly were. I would have thought it would take less than three drinks to make me over .05 as I weigh 130lbs.

Three stiff crown and cokes in two hours and I was only 0.024.

i disagree dave, as the ones who fougght to get this legislation passsed are not making any money on this deal. j/s
yes some peeps are but thats the way it always will be. am i in favor of the new rule yes as i said before i have drove before when i shouldn't have and still was way under .08 so .05 i think is a good place to start.
I wasn't suggesting that the comrades who lobbied for the law change were the ones making any money. The reason the gov't passed the law is because there is $$$ at stake. Kinda like red light cameras....convicted with no trial. I am sure I'm not the only one who stops for 2 beers and a plate of wings on the way home sometimes.....well...this is over. I don't really care, I have beer at home...my wings suck...but business will suffer. That hot waitress that would get 20 bucks from me now gets zip. I NEVER drive when I've had 3 or more....the wife will come get me every time. But with the threat of losing my truck and licence for 3 days...and hence, my job...it's done. FYI: I've never had a DUI, 24 suspension, or any other booze related charge...EVER. But I oppose this new legislation.

I work for the organization that helped bring this legislation to Alberta, here's a link that might help people realize the number of deaths that are alcohol related. PAGE 4 of These are from 2009, when we get our updated data, I will share that too :)
This is good info also notice it says 45% were positive for alcohol and 41% were over the limit (.08), so 4% were under and how many of them were under the .04? Seems like there fishing for 4% instead of going after the 41%. Sounds like BS

I as well have never had any sort of licence suspension, nor DUI charge. I am NOT pro drunk driving W2R you azzhat. As I stated before I'd be curiouse to know how many injury/fatality incidents are caused by people between .05 and .08...

I don't like the government dictating what I can and can not do when my actions do not endanger anyone.

I understand that my point of view is difficult to argue, I've had the same conversations regarding having a beer on the trail.... responsible people should not be discriminated against because others are fawk-ups...

Expecting to reduce drunk driving deaths by tightening up lower level laws is akin to trying to reduce gun related deaths by making owners register

those who drive drunk don't give a fawk what the limit is, just as people who kill people with guns aren't going to register them first....

Just sayin...

Gonna put in my 2 cents here !!! If the bloody government wants things to change........................then change the bloody penalties for people caught drinking and driving. Don't prosicute those of us who go out for dinner with friends and make us scared to finish off a glass of wine or beverage !!! Why not change the laws...................first offense you have a blow machine in your vehicle for 2 years, that the offender pays for of course..........................second time you get one for life !!!!

As long as you don't hurt someone else no one cares, but how many drunk driving deaths are there? ONE is to many. I haven't looked but maybe stats show many of them are 0.05-0.07 or so?

Personally I think there should be no law against drunk driving, go ahead drive with 0.30 if you want. But hurt or kill someone with blood alcohol above 0.08, loose your license for life and a really long jail sentence to sit and think about it, something like 30-40 years would do it I bet. I wonder how many drunk driving issues there would be then? I know I wouldn't be worried about drunk drivers anymore. Plus no repeat offenders!

The fact that drinking and driving is still a issue in 2011 is mind boggling how fawking stupid people are. How the fawk do people STILL not get it and how dangerous it is? I don't care what the legal limit is, ANY amount that impairs your driving you SHOULDN'T be driving, you shouldn't need a fawking breathalyzer to tell you if your ok to drive or not.....

They don't care what the limit is, but if the time is bad enough they won't do the crime.

OK so if you look at the 3rd chart:

If I weighed 200 LBs.
Had 3 drinks in an hour....
My level would be 0.045

Correct?

Look at the third chart

If you weighed 200lbs....you were caught in some sort of industrial machine and torn apart....hahahaha
LOL! But doesn't it vary depending on what you have eaten also?

I think so, I ate a plate of chinese food and dessert. six drinks over the course of 4 hours and I couldn't feel a thing. I still took a cab home because it didn't seem worth risking it in case my blood alcohol level read higher.

I'm a casual drinker in the sense that, I only drink to get hammered, it's usually every second or third weekend. To have a drink here and there seems useless to me.

Well like it or not. Crash deaths blamed on alcohol have plummeted by 40 per cent since tough new impaired-driving penalties were introduced last year. So it is working. But it seems people want to be able to drink and drive anyway

Let's look at it this way: if you parked your car in a handicapped space and got a ticket, you deserve it right? OK...say you parked your car just real close to a handicapped spot...should you still get a ticket?

How the fawk is that the same? Wow. A better analogy would be nearly causing a massive accident, that deserves a ticket for sure. Drunk driving would be causing a huge accident, because so often it does. Both deserve a ticket, just a different penalty.
