Just a question, I'm going down to pick up my first sled tomorrow, and wondering if the weight of it will brake the tailgate? I'm thinking about getting one of those ramps that just hook right on to the gate, it seems to me like the gate probably won't hold.
Any experience with this from anyone??

I wouldn't worry. You won't hurt your tailgate at all. Many people load side by sides that are well over 1000 lbs with no issues.

Sent from my iPhone when I should be sledding.

I have a 2003 F-150 short box as well as a 2008 m1000 162 and I'm 255lbs. I bought one of those nice tri fold aluminum sled ramps that hook on the tailgate and secure using a ratchet strap to my hitch at the end of last season. I have been up and down over 30+ times with this combo and have yet to see any damage to my tailgate. just go nice and easy and you won't have a problem. What kinda truck you have?

I have an older GMC and use a tri-fold ramp a lot to load sleds and quads. I haven't damaged mine but I don't do it that often. My brother-in-law used his quad well-checking and after loading and unloading 10 times a day he bent his. Biggest thing to remember is to secure the ramps to the truck with a strap so the track doesn't spin them out from under you. Plenty of videos on you-tube of loading ramps gone bad.

I have an 02 f-250 short box, and I'M picking up an rmk pro 163... So pretty much the same deal, lol. How far does the sled stick out?? I'm thinking about getting a sled deck possibly, but would prefer not 2.

You guys are fine i load and unload sleds/quads/dirtbikes everyweekend....your not guna bend your end gate do your self a favor and get a half decent tri fold ramp and put some puckboard on each side for your ski's (not one long piece down each side cut them out so the puck board is just on the ramps aluminum) that way you can still load quads/bikes on it and not kill your self cause of slipping down the dam thing :p figured that one out the hard way

You'll be happy with the BullDog Deck, very nicely built, solid unit, it'll treat ya right! Made in BC to boot! Depending on the length of the sled-deck and your sled, might want to look at the extension they make also. Need it on my short box with the long tracked sleds.

Son has a '12 F150 and the first time he loaded his quad, the end gate separated - inner from out panels.
Had to do a little talking with Ford, but they are replacing rather than repairing. Think it has something to do with their lovely add campaign
that shows a quad in the back of their trucks and this wasn't good advertising.

Tailgates are not meant to carry any weight. I loaded my Can Am 800 a few times and saw that the tailgate was bending, did not want to be a statistic or a you tube casualty. Bought a STF deck and am very happy with it. Also it frees up some space in the box so you can carry more stuff.

Get a Ram! No issues, and I even loaded a Yamaha Attank many times over (that's the true test right there).

The only time you would have trouble is if the cables are old and rusted. I have seen those break before, then the bumper dents the tail gate.

depends on how fast you hit it.... lol.

Seriously, no it should not. I loaded my Nytro xtx in the back of the truck a fair number of times with no issues on the Chev or Dodge tailgates.

I used a standard aluminum folding ramp and never an issue, just secure the ramp with the chains it comes with so you don't spit the ramp out when your going up or coming off the ski's will catch and pull the ramp off of the tail gate.
