Actually not too far from that spot the oil companies put up garbage bins out at south fork

Still if that's in the am after the night party it wouldn't help, as there still snoring away

sent while I should be drinking tea's
If you recall....there were the bins out there that year we were all there....oilfield cans with stairs on one side to allow easy tossing of the garbage....people were to stupid to figure it out. There were trash bags tossed ON TOP of the lids....

Or maybe the problem is stupid people, not stupid government. More CO's just means more policing and more rules and more people looking over our shoulder. What ever happened to picking up after yourself and taking responsibility for your own actions?.

Drinking while driving and blasting guns out the window and rcmp choose to do nothing.... this makes no sense to me. Apparently someone needs to die before they do anything??

When I was in highschool after grads were at acerages. Hall parties were another place they happened. There would be lots of destruction and fights. So then one year jasper place comp use lake Eden campground. Once again tons of vandalizing and fights. People's boats and cabins burnt ect. Now they moved into the bush and pushed the problems out there. Pretty sad but everyone was young and stupid at one time. I'm not sure what the fix is but this may long crap isnt campers. It's people out to have a big bash.

last year we passed the "grad party" on Southfork on the Saturday & Sunday, it was a total disaster area, however, when we went back past there on the Monday the place was absolutely spotless, they cleaned all the garbage up.

Not sure if that's because we talked to a CO when we were there and issued our concerns and disgust or if it was just what the parent volunteers made them do when they went out to pickup their campers.

I don't understand why a person would make the mess in the first place though. I hate cleaning up my chit let alone others garbage. Makes the hangover much worse lol

there is a Brule Lake page on facebook, was a pretty interesting discussion going on there after some kids left a huge mess on the long weekend. a couple of them were outed and replied, it got pretty heated with physical threats etc. a lot of them didn't have machines and weren't out there to ride at all, just party. if facebook has done anything, it's made it easy to find and shame people for their actions, you gotta think that would pop into your head the next time...

You expect these people to think Tee? I wonder what their own houses look like? Or how they would like all the chit that gets collected thrown into their yards/lawns.

Disrespectful pack of Alberta campers leaves carnage behind on British Columbia Crown land

Bad journalism. Sensational headlines. Sure it happened and has for years all over - but lets get the facts right before going to press.

Heath Slee is the politician who wanted the Sweetwater Resort on Koocanusa to go ahead. Sweetwater was and is a fraudulent scam. Sweetwater is a development the size of a small town on a lake that is less than a mile wide with several hundred boat slips (500+). Instead of spreading out development along the 90 mile lake the local politicians have decided to concentrate thousands of people in search of solitude and recreation in one area with a developer who has previously been charged with fraud and has on a regular basis 'run out of money' to pay contractors and has had to go back to the well to get more money to get the development to the next level (all the time trying to get new buyers in).

I've seen many residential properties in BC with more crap in their own yards than the average Albertan campsite - stop pushing the inflammatory rhetoric and significantly revise the random camping rules at Koocanusa once and for all (and also meantime downsize Sweetwater to a reasonable scope).

Crazy to think that - not one person out of that group had a conscience and cleaned that up. It's either some ridiculous peer pressure to be cool or very scary as a society.

unfortunately we see this all to often... mostly younger generation who are the worst offenders. too lazy to pick up after themselves. I am guessing mom and dad are still picking up after them, unless they come from some sort of hoarder house. they abandon their camps, leaving all their trash and fire still burning. keep it up and we wont have these areas to camp for much longer

Absolutely not condoning what went on but there were just as many locals partying out there as there was others. Understandably there should be some outrage at the mess but to call up a newspaper and give a one sided story just inflames the BC/Alberta tensions. No other news outlet picked up the story - just the Sun.

I have been camping in the south country for about 30 years and yes it is getting to be a joke. So many more people than ever before. Something has to change or they will shut the bush down for EVERYONE! I have cleaned up many sites before actually camping in them.

thats exactly what's it going to take... guy like you and and me that clean as we go so others can see that... then one day somehow someway maybe we'll organize... keep up the good work hope you have some toys in your campground so that others see not everyone who likes riding is bad...

the other issue that must be stopped asap is the huge parties that scares families away... call the cops do whatever... have them moved on... i have no problem with large bush parties but there is a time and a place for everything...these things affect familes there to enjoy the peace and quite... these things have to stop or we'll all be camping in gov't approved private KOA campsites riding on groomed gravel trails like our brothers to the south... no offence but that would suck!

oh and fyi sadly in more populated areas i camp with a 12 gauge and its not loaded for bears... just saying

I actually gave up and now have a permanent site. No more worries... just take the cooler and few supplied and drive out to the trailer and start camping.

Business opportunity. Buy 40 acres. Set up a random camping operation - no services except outhouses and outdoor showers. Charge for entry - have to sign limited liability waiver. Add in a damage deposit to cover clean up etc. Sell all the basics. Limit entry and exit. May long to Thanksgiving. Count money and deposit in bank. Go to Palm Springs for the winter. Repeat.
