Disrespectful pack of Alberta campers leaves carnage behind on British Columbia Crown land | Opinion | Calgary Sun

Not cool for anyone to do this regardless where you from. Went camping myself on the weekend and while on the sxs found an old refrigerator way out in the bush. If you drive so far why not just take it to the landfill? Stupid people!!

wow i just don't get it! Yet another reason to shut us out of crown land... someday in my lifetime i bet ill see a movement towards privatizing our crown land... chit like this will be one excuse... forest fires the other...

note that they mention dirt bikes in the article as well. So, just another black eye to those who enjoy off roading.

theres never a reason to shut us down. It's a reason to make penalties super stiff. Like a dumping fine should be $15,000 or 6 months in jail. That way not all are punished by a few others actions. I'm sure Very few people litter and closures aren't going to help. Giving people places to ride and stiff enforceable rules is whats needed

What pathetic excuse for adults are these people? What kind of an example are they setting. As said before I would love to gather all that crap up find where they live and dump it on there front yard. If I go out for a BBQ I even soak the charcoal and bring it home put it in the trash.

Sent from my iPhone while wishing the snow was gone so I can go dirt biking.

Out east of Clyde where we live the crown land is totally littered with furniture and appliances, mostly used for target practice. It's really getting disgusting the lack of respect some people are showing, I'm getting tired of packing out your beer cans and water bottles. The local land owners bordering the crown are beating the drum loudly now, so don't be surprised by shut downs. The other local area is Long Island Lake, beer cans and bottles, and don't get me started on unattended camp fires! Rant over, we really enjoy quading and the outdoors and make all efforts to keep it clean and be responsible.

So one picture shows that this was noticed when all these hooligans were still there. Either give them 24 hours to clean up and ship out, take all their info or Fine them right then and there instead of waiting till days after. Same old story, complain after the fact instead of seizing opportunity.

I found it interesting when listening to the news; Global Calgary gave it "a passing glance" and CTV Vancouver was a "good in-depth coverage".

There was a receipt for fuel from a Calgary gas station. The BC government have cut too deeply into the core of the grass roots employees and are way too top heavy. There are 3 CO's to cover from Kananaskis (the upper Elk Valley) all the way down to Koocanusa. Unless the CO's are camped down there for the weekend (which would be a great idea, IMHO), following Union contracts, away from family, etc.. it would be a pretty tough road to hoe!

I have said it for years out here, all the rules in the world don't doo a damn thing unless there are feet on the ground for enforcement!

Look at the recently passed legislation for "mud bogging". With the hefty fines that are available to them, I haven't heard nor read of one conviction. It is a whole new world out there and even the CO's are afraid to lay down the law. The philosophy of "education" instead of laying down the hammer has to change with the CO's and the judicial system.

There is absolutely no reason to leave anything in the bush other than foot prints and maybe a small pile of ashes!

I have place directly across lake from this chit show. Every year it progresses. But... It's not all albertans making mess. I was there Easter weekend and last weekend and witnessed numerous people throwing empty cans/garbage on ground. They will end up shutting this down and I kinda hope so cause it's out of hand.

Our BC government is just so stupid. There should be way more CO's and they should be handing out fines like chiclets which should more than pay for their wages. Responsible tourist don't want to come back when they see **** like this so tourism will suffer. If you live in BC send this story to your MLA saying we need more co's.

agree... the money they write in fines should go back into their service help them pay for gas in their vehicles and more planned operations and officers... just my 2 cents

the problem is that the government would simply put this back into general revenue and not where it is generated to offset costs.

This is why i stay home on long weekends. Dont wanna be any part of the **** shows that happen in BC and AB or anywhere for that matter. Thankfully its easy for me to work through them and head out when the crowds arnt there. That is why i head to the mtns, to get away from the crowds not to go out with all the other idiots. I deal with to many of them on daily basis just living in Calgary. Maybe other campers should be calling and making complaints to CO's while this is happening or maybe if these people were told by enough campers that there being douch bags they'd get the point.

It stems down to bad attitude and lack of respect. I bet if you placed five large and clearly marked waste bins at that location, these idiots will still drop trash on the ground.

F'n human trash. They found a Calgary receipt on site, with a little investigative leg work the RCMP should be able to find some store video and locate at least one of the aholes. If they could be charged, dont fine them, make them cleanup sites (including the outhouses) for a summer. Cant afford the time, then heavy fines.

Actually not too far from that spot the oil companies put up garbage bins out at south fork

Still if that's in the am after the night party it wouldn't help, as there still snoring away
