The image of beer as a drink for small men is given a twist by English poet A.E. Housman in A Shropshire Lad (1896). Here Housman sees ale as a drink for regular sized fellows with small minds.
Ale, man, ale's the stuff to drink
For fellows who it hurts to think:
Look into the pewter pot
To see the world as the world's not.
OH..... I KNOW . so that when the #$%^&ING bible thumpers come to your home and catch you unaware... drinking in the garage and minding your own afair.... you will come up with the courage to tell them off ,and the wisdom to do it in a loud , but polite manner . thus getting a round of applause from your neighbors . OK ... i lied.......i was not polite...shouldnt need s to cause a scene like this but it makes for a "better" vocabulary.
gotta love a good round of ADJECTIVES.
