Toyboy, that's my point exactly. They should support them if their product is being used by a large number of their customers. I brought this up originally about Varda in a thread about Vard

That was my point general how many guys from this area ride Revy vs valemount or McBride?

Props to Varda for what they do but my guess would be more ride Revy from around here. In 15 years of mountain sledding I've been to valemount twice. I have been to Revy at least 50 times and McBride 20.
If it is important to you support companies that support the area you ride most or better yet that support all the areas you ride great but to single out one area is dumb unless you ride it exclusively but don't expect all the companies to cater to your area.
I do agree that they should at least support one area in bc if they cater to the mountain crowd

Yes you have your opinion. I'm sure these company's have one too, I'm sure they give 2cents to your opinion. I'm sure they also contribute in ways you will never know and VARDA is just one piece of the pie. I suggest keeping your 2 bits to yourself before bashing a buisness for not supporting one club, there are a lot out there.
Keep my 2 bits to myself? Sorry to have offered an opinion on your forum!

I agree with you to a point, in a sence they are supporting all local riding areas by selling a product to a consumer that will support the area he or she choses to ride in. Now if my dealer decides that he will ride in vale it's up to him if he wants to donate, and I know he does.
250 is a help, but selling say 10 sleds to people who decide to ride vale exclusively, and spent 1000 bucks every weekend, and make 10 trips in a season, do the math.
Edmonton is kind of centrally located, how do yah know that certain dealers didn't decide to donate to golden, revy, etc. I don't, and for that matter it's none of my business.

I'm sorry to even bring VARDA in to this but it just happens to be the club thats been brought up. I think they have done great things for valemount but as said before
they are not the only club that need buisnesses to help them out. The Maxwell's support VARDA because they ride and live their and good on them. Maxwell tell me I'M wrong in my rant and ill shut up

Not wrong at all. No right or wrong on this one I'm afraid.

Dealers are not obligated to support any club or area, we as riders support the area we chose, although donations could be a great tax right off

That's funny when I dropped 15k at riverside I don't recall them asking where I planned on riding?

If they do not know where their customers are riding they do not care about selling snowmobiles. If the majority of the voting public in Alberta and British Columbia had their way we would be sledding in our own backyards with energy efficient, emission controlled four stroke snowmobiles, aftermarket cans would be illegal and accordingly the market for snowmobiles and aftermarket parts in Alberta and British Columbia would see a drastic reduction. If it were not for the ASA, ABC and BCSF and their 50 to 60 member clubs, lobbying governments, publicly countering the well funded greenie movement and maintaining trails, cabins and staging areas the dealers and aftermarket people would be the big losers. Is is through the hardwork and dedicated volunteerism of people on this forum such as ministikman, powderpuff, sledderglen, ferniesnow to name just a few that we are allowed to do what we do. It only makes sense that those businesses benefitting from the sale of snowmobiles and aftermarket parts and service in British Columbia and Alberta should support these not for profit organizations so I am with The General on this one. He did not say the businesses he specifically mentioned should only support VARDA he said a Bronze Sponsor which comes with advertising in brochures, at sled shows, at cabins, etc. is only $250. If that business feels that 4 times as many of their customers ride at Revy they could send $1,000 to the Revelstoke Snowmobile Club, if they felt half as many rode in Mcbride send them $125 as every bit helps. If all your customers are flatlanders donate only to
Tri-County, Alberta Beach, etc. Of the 50 to 60 clubs under ASA, ABC and BCSF only about 30 are in areas that customers of businesses in Edmonton would concievably ride on a relatively regular basis. Set aside $7500 a year in your promotion budget and send all 30 of those clubs $250. What I think the General is saying is that if you are are a business in Edmonton that makes considerable revenues from mountain snowmobiling giving no money to VARDA as one of those 30 clubs is not an option unless you have a damn good reason.

thinkin you guys are missing the point it is a voluntary donation, when did it become mandatory. yes it would be nice, just as you support those that have the products and services you require or use. so far i don't see anyone being required to support anyone. after a while people get tired of everyone looking for a friggin hand out, now i'm assuming that every business in valemont also supports varda. haha

Absolutely it is voluntary. No one used the word mandatory they just said it would be awfully nice if those benefitting from the sledding industry donated to the not for profit organizations where their customer's ride and simply used Valemount as one example. The people who work with those clubs, most of them volunteers normally do not like to come with their hands out to businesses so if someone like the General puts a little pressure on those businesses I do not see a problem with that. Several years ago the Petro Canada in Valemount did not put a nickel towards VARDA in spite of the huge lineups of sled trailers buying gas, food and supplies there. Pressure was put on by people on this forum whom did not work for or volunteer for VARDA and as a result of that many sledders were boycotting the Petro Canada. Petro Canada is now a major sponsor of VARDA I hope partly due to that pressure. Mother Theresa was notorious for the pressure she put on individuals and organizations to donate to her cause and it got her a sainthood.

have no idea if they donate in the business name or each individual has a membership, a call to the business may get an answer? i know the people working at a dealer in redeer has very few sledders on staff, mostly dirtbikers, a few quads. where there donation funds go to i have no idea. but there are alot of sled businesses in edmonton and area. hinton, edson, drayton valley etc. maybe a varda donation campaign is in order. only they can tell you where they are at. maybe list the donaters etc and what they donated, may or may not work, 4250 doesn't seem to be a large amount? better to ask them than tell us who i can or cannot support.

Seeing that most of the business's that we are talking about monitor this site regularily, maybe it would be in there best interests to tell everyone which area's they do volunteer to? Just a suggestion. Then peeps will no who and who is not sharing the wealth so to speak. Lol.
