i have an '05 brute with the following mods
- highlifter pen-lock
- k&n filter and outerwear
- velocity devices inc timing advance module
- rubber down customs 2" lift
- highlifter high capacity springs
- highlifter 2.5" spacers (all around)
- aluminum products skid plates and stick guards
- 26" dirt devils
- hmf penland pro exhaust (full system)
if i could go back, the only mod that i wouldn't waste my money on, is the vdi timing advance. I'd just buy a different cdi. The lift and heavy springs are relatively new, and they're my favorite mod, right now.
My next mod will be a rad relocate kit (trying to find one that i like, that doesn't look stupid, might go custom), then new tires and eventually snorkel everything. Ah, and most likely clutches, although i've had no problems yet (tiny tires).

whats the story on the vdi. I just bought one?
Hey just a fyi. Keep Ur stocker in the stock spot and add a 2nd rad.
The relocates still get two dam hot ( cause tiped back there is not enough air flow )
Me and a buddy have done it with stock tyrex rads. Bolts on to rack. Just series the hoses and bam. Stock fan barely rans ( unless bottom is pluged off and going slow ).
The 2nd rad works so much better just with the extra coolant capacity
sent from my htc
story goes.....
Years ago, my buddy bought an '07 brute. Came from dealer with cdi and clutch kit. He bought the vdi, not really knowing what he was buying, and someone told him it wouldn't add any benefit, with an aftermarket cdi. He sold it to me, as i had a stock cdi, and i misplaced it for years. Installed it this year, and didn't really notice a difference. (that being said, i haven't done back to back pulls with it turned off and on, to compare). If i hadn't paid for it years ago, i'd probably feel ripped off.
I'm not saying they're useless, just i haven't really noticed any benefit. Rather save the $100.
did you have it programed to your set up? I notice it pulled harder down low. Top end not so much. But i think that has more to do with the clutching im running.
Maybe we're talking about different products from the same company. There's no programming on the module that I bought. (found ) Only ON or OFF. The "features" also list that the module is only effective under 7KM/h
no vdi are programed and can be changed for different stuff.tire size, pipes, fuel types and so on. there is a switch, but thats for map 1 or 2. they can be set up different. if its a vdi copperhead. call lyle. they'll reprogram them for free. just have to sent it to them. there in calgary.
That's a little disappointing. I was looking forward to getting the stock rad out of there, and how much easier it would be to access everything. (I bet the 06 is the same way, but the 05 has a bunch of plastic shrouding that really fills that space). Also a second rad and fan is sooo much more expensive than just a relocate.
All of that being said, it's still probably really good advice.
I'm already having trouble with my stock fan (haven't tried the WD-40, yet, but it seems to be spinning faster right now anyways). I did read on Mudinmyblood.net that there's some cheaper fan available that apparently zip ties to the stock fan and moves a tonne more air. I guess this is an option too (if the stock fan dies)
Do you have any recommendations on rad/fan kits that you'd buy for the second one? I noticed on my buddies 2012 Brute, there is no plastic shrouding behind the rad, but his fan is also a little more protected too. You think it's fine to remove that plastic? (make it a little easier to access, and clean)
(Sorry for the thread-jack, OP, but it's all related)
Have to have the copperhead for the programming, his sounds like just the ignition module only. I had the VDI copperhead for my Brute but ended up selling it and getting the MSD instead. Completely different feeling, with the VDI I couldn't even get a full ride in without changing back to the stock ECU as the machine would keep shutting down on me. Had the MSD for over a year and way better power and no issues at all.no vdi are programed and can be changed for different stuff.tire size, pipes, fuel types and so on. there is a switch, but thats for map 1 or 2. they can be set up different. if its a vdi copperhead. call lyle. they'll reprogram them for free. just have to sent it to them. there in calgary.
