I'd rather own a $5-7k sled that was paid for in cash, then a brand new one financed. You don't have to be rich to pay for one in cash.

But then again, if your 20 and financing a sled, compared to someone who 40's that's a lot different. I mean someone whos 20s hasn't had a lot of time to build up wealth and will have a lot harder time to have the coin. I wouldn't be caught dead at 40+ financing ANYTHING but a house or something else that will make me a lot of money.

It annoys me when I had a truck payment and paying a bank $150 a month in interest alone.

ch!t I am going to university in the fall, have a house payment to make and will still save up for a sled this summer. Put in an extra shift every week for a summer and there's your sled money. Instead of making someone else rich.

Everyone has payments. Not everyone has 5-7k cash to put on a toy. I pay for a sled to. Its what i have to do to be in this sport. Is my portfolio good? Whats a portfolio? Whats the problem i finance is over 2 years. Not the end of the world to ride current tech when you love the sport. And i already work extra shifts.

That's your choice. I am happy riding a 4-5 year old sled for less then half the cost of new and not loosing much money when I sell it in a few years. I don't enjoy buying a sled and loosing my shirt on it in a few years PLUS interest. I guess I could understand financing your first, but not sled after sled and making payments forever.

My only payment is a house, I won't finance a sled ever or a vehicle again.

Your choice, I like people like you who take the big hit in value on the sleds instead of me. Heck I bought one sled in the fall, sold it in the spring after and got exactly what I paid. Can't go wrong!

Fair enough. Second sled ive financed.I wish i could pay a sled cash but I cant. Maybe my priorities are out of line but a new sleigh every 5 years is my deal. I could cash in my investments to buy(which are limited) but the extra 3 k to ride fairly new sled works for me.

Fair enough. this is the second sled ive financed. i wish my portfolio dictaed a sled cash. but it doesnt. 2 k a year to ride current tech might not be a great plan. but its what i do

I doubt that post will be Cyle approved....

All the power to him if he wants to spend his money like that. I enjoy a sled only costing me about $500 a year in lost value. It sits WAY to much for me to justify a few thousand a year or more.

My goal is by 40 to be out of debt completely, and never borrow another penny again, but that's just me. So financing a toy doesn't go into that plan. Not by sacraficing, but by having a bit older toys and vehicles, which is fine by me. I enjoy sledding just as much on a older one, as long as it doesn't break down i'm happy.

I pay cash for everything! Its just technically the banks cash ;)
I'm only mid 30's and I've lost to many people to soon, and watched to many people wait till they had the money to do something, and never make it!
Life is way to short and can be gone in an instance, be it in an avy, a car accident, a heart failure, or a slip on the banana peel........Just DO IT!
This thread has turned into a p*ssing match of values..........do whatever your comfortable with and don't worry about who pay'd cash, they are not having any more fun than you are......

My RT1000 I rode last would outpull my buddies brand new dragon without a sweat.......Prices doesn't mean how capable a sled is. Or even look in the classifieds, you can buy a nice used turbo for $8k.

Or look at it this way, how many extra sledding trips can you take a year instead of paying interest? I know i'd rather take a few more with old iron then have new iron sit in the garage.

Not trying to argue in the slightest....but a 99 summit x is far from a current turbo......just a poor boy who does what he can to love and embrace the sport......

With some of the low interest rates out there today 3-3.5% and you are paying cash. You guys seriously need to find a new investment banker cause you are losing your A$$. Just sayin.[/QUOTE

When it comes to toys, low interest rates get trumped by spouse!! I pay cash as well, the wife and I have an agreement, she stays out of my shop and I do not go near her shoe closet!!!

No arguement here. 8k and 3k are a lot different though. Im learning from here. Im far from financially together so all of this helps. just started investing. appreciate all input. unfortunately im still financing the biggest aprt of my life.

I don't think so as people do what they have to and i was just curious to see what some folks opinions are and what they do!! I see alot of new iron in the parking lots that include trucks, trailers and sleds that are worth a pile of cash.
I am one of the ones that like buying slightly used as have gotten tired of fixing the problems with new model years and the over inflated price to be first. Been there done that.
You never used to see anything like this years ago.
Don't turn this into a bashing thread about how you think is wealthy and how isn't. Everyone spends different!!
Happy sledding

Could have named this thread "I'm super cool because I pay cash for my sleds - I bet a bunch of other super cool people with tons of cash will post soon!"

your fawked. an rt1000 is 1/10th the sled any of the 2013 models are. yes your rt1000 pulls good but thats only a part of riding sleds. id rather pay a bit of interest from financing and have a brand new sled every year or two years so i know im reliable in the backcountry. the places i go can be a 5000 heli ride so like fawk im taking a ticking timebbomb rt1000 into the backcountry because its all i can afford to pay cash for LOL. financing brings tons of new people into the sport and puts some of the best and skilled riders on new sleds. just what i see

Ya but one think there maxy...

If its new ( even 100 km on it no matter what brand ) it can die just as easy as a old balls one. At least a old one can be easy to figure out and temp fix to get out and or just pull the motor and bring it back fixed and ride it out...

Ur not doing it with a buffalo, a new kitty or a new po po pro...

hahaha! My wife and I have basically the same understanding....very seldomly does she come in my shop...and very seldomly do I ask her to.
