I read some and scanned most of the report which lead to the Castle area closures.
Somebody has spent a lot cash and hired some very intelligent folks to pull that report together.
The financial support is what is lacking in our camp to make the case to keep the areas open and the resources to deal with the unruly folks. Or was it really the best thing to do, in spite of our own wants and desires.
In my area, the problems with the ATV's and Off Road Jeeps has been escalated beyond fire pits an garbage, but now add guns. There have not been any scientists going out to complete a report on what impact the ATV's have done tearing up the place, but the adjacent land owners will begin lobbying to put an end to the access to the land, to their headaches dealing with loud pipes, high speeds and concerns about the guns.
It will also put an end to confrontations I have with land owners following me as I access the public land legally and respectfully. Imagine their surprise when they find me and my family picking up garbage left behind from righteous ATVer party. So because I am on ATV, I sometimes get the wrath on behalf of my fellow enthusiasts.
The attitudes of our ATV people need a serious make over, or all we do is provide ammunition to make it easy to see additional areas closed.
