Any oil in the combustion chamber is bad and causes detonation and slow fuel burn , so the least amount that you can run is always better for power. Maxwell is half correct on the EFI comment . The E-tec is a electronic fuel injected engine (EFI ) in which the mode of fuel delivery is direct injection , it is still a EFI engine management system .I would not put extra oil in the gas tank because it would simply just fog the combustion area with unwanted oil . The "break the engine in " is a throw back from the cast iron rings and flat tappet days . Modern day engines use Moly rings that are somewhat soft and wear in and conform to the cylinder walls much faster than their hard cast iron ancestors .

Engines do not get stronger with age.

ya BAD idea.

the etecs computer takes care of all the oiling and fueling needs during break in which is why i say ride it hard. it will consume more oil and fuel for the first bit.

the etec does NOT like mixed fuel.

also the etec is direct injection not EFI. so sleds like the rmk and m series can run mixed fuel.

I know I did add some oil to the tank when I did my top end on my REV, but that was a totally different animal.

This is what I did with my Pro for break in. After starting and let it warm up, find a nice piece of flat straight land. Run it to half throttle for a few seconds, let it coast to a stop. Repeat 3 times. Then do the same thing at 3/4 throttle, then do the same thing at full throttle. Only holding these throttle positions for a few seconds, and taking your thumb off the throttle and letting it coast to a stop (with no brakes) is the key, as it creates more back pressure in the cylinders, helping to seat the rings properly. After that, I make sure I'm varying throttle position and not holding it WOT for more than a few seconds at a time for the first 100km or so.

I heat cycle the motor 3 times,add a bit of oil to the tank and them ride it fairly hard but do not hold it to the bar for to long.IMO heat cycling the motor is the key to longevity...

Doesn't Skidoo have their sleds set up so the timing is slightly retarded for the first 8-10 hrs? No stupid comments about Skidoo sled being retarded are needed please!!!

I believe Polaris does this as well.. Not 100% sure but I am sure someone will know for sure

Ride the chit out of it. You want to get your rings to seat good

This sounds like a bad way for a break in, but its the only way ive done it and never had engine problems. Ive never put extra oil in the tank. Ride it hard as you would, i think common sense comes in to play for trail riding with no snow on it....

LOL dave! That all being said this is my first turbo! Does a turbo require a sort of break in to seat bearings and such or do they do all that in testing? (in the turbo itself)


Plus now im obligated to put oil in the tank with the oil delete haha

Not really any break in for the turbo,but once the system has been used for a bit we will checking for boost leaks,coolant leaks,oil circulation and those pesky cracks that can happen on the exhaust causing boost leaks.
I have a feeling you won't be holding it to the bar for to long,your first few rides you'll have to get used to having longer arms....lol

One of the best features on the Etec( IMO ) is the warm-up mode. makes it "almost " impossible to cold sieze the motor

once its warm, black tape throttle to the bar and use kill switch for braking.:cool:

How does "Warm up mode" work. Sled won't rev past a certain RPM until a certain temp?

That seems to be the general consensus. Even guys at the sled show were saying the same thing at white knuckle racing. And ya, those Y pipe cracks kinda like on yours I found haha You get your D&D yet?

Heat cycle it twice. Go out and do a few passes to 1/4 throttle and back to idle repeat for 1/2 throttle, 3/4, and full throttle. Two strokes don't really pull vacuum like a 4 stroke but it helps seat the rings. Then pin it til you see Jesus.
