Wheres the best diesel fuel ???

I now have a Dodge diesel and would like to know where to get my fuel ??? Any other tips or tricks to get the best stock output of of the unit

somewhere that gets alot of bussiness, that way they are always getting fresh fuel. Also put diesel conditioner in every near empty tank before you refill. DFL makes conditional.

That's about it. I've ran a few tanks of fuel from each place and I seem to get the same mileage all the time.

I run a liter of two stroke oil in my fuel, I've read good things about it helping lubricity ( now that we have ULSD ( ultra low sulfur diesel )) I use the stuff from wally world, you just need to get the stuff with the TCW3 rating. I swear the engine runs quieter and smoother when I put it in.

Check out one of the cummins forums for all the info you need. Or just ask Cyle, he knows everything about them.......;-)

Huh never thought of adding the two-stroke oil. but it makes since.

Glen, call me some time..... I can give you the low down on fuels.

Basically the big 3 for diesel is good(petro-can, esso, shell)......... Flying j uses venezuelan diesel imported, for the most part. The rest are off brands of the big 3 and don't hardly have any additives at all/if any...... The big 3 already have conditioners and waxing agents in them. Change your fuel filter/water seperator at least once and year or 20k and you'll never have a problem. If your injectors get a little noisy, then run some cleaner/conditioner in one tank full, and it should be good. I found that the ford "cetane booster and performance improver works good on the dodges.....

What is the best injector cleaner for a Duramax? I have been trying to find the Stanadyne stuff here in town with no luck? Do you know who sells it?

I have been running the Howes stuff with every tank. I found some of the Howes Meaner Power Cleaner at UFA and ran it through the tractor - but I haven't had a chance to use it in the truck yet?

Flying J sells imported diesel? Really? How the hell can they get it here cheaper than the refinery that is 5 mins away?

PS What I do and many will consider over the top but has never left me stranded is all fuel in my tidy tank then pumped into my truck through a water absorbing baldwin filter that cleans it up to about 6 microns. Never had a contaminated truck but a few baldwin filters that have plugged off mid fill.

If your looking for Stanadyne in Edmonton you can pick it up at Union Tractor, they're at 6210 75th Street. I had a hard time finding it also

Yup, union tractor and traction(which is owned by napa) also had stanadyne for a while..... I think they still do. I think most of the big rig dealers still carry the stanadyne as well?

Shell just puts gas in your diesel like they did to my buddys Denali Duramax on saturday nite.... he always starts the pump but he was dressed up for a wedding.

Hmm a trend.. they also did that to my Cummins, not a good day

If it's a newer Dodge, listen to this advice, and then coming looking for him when your motor needs work from it. If you put 2 stroke oil in a newer high pressure common rail engine, you might as well put gas in it, will destroy your engine, injectors, etc about the same. That is for the 13+ year old engines, and now is about the stupiest thing you can do. Go ahead, look it up about Cummins and you will find out.

Yes ULSD is not the greatest for the engines now, 2 stroke oil is NOT the answer.

And as far as conditioner, Cummins reccomends running NONE unless something comes up. You do not need it if the diesels clean.

Hi Glen, on my 3rd diesel, total 600,000 km so far, use fuel from high volume dealers, change your fuel filter as per truck owners manual, and for the winter time have a liter of melt down, I know it can be hard on your system but at 40 below you will do anything to keep it going verus crawling under the truck and changing that filter. Enjoy the power.

Yep your right. A buddy of mine hauled fuel for flying J, shell is the prefered supplier.
And the best place to get fuel, is not the place where there is a tanker unloading fuel, avoid filling up if there is one unloading.
