I have a cabin booked on river bend lane for next weekend and I have never been in this area. My brother and I have been to Golden once so looking for something pretty tame and close. Also would like to let our girl friends try our new sleds in some real snow.

how are the conditions out there?

Any help would be great

About 4 km down the st mary road from you, on the right is bootleg. follow the sled tracks up to some higher cutblocks with little avy hazzard. if you go by a camper on a landing that trail will take you up into avy terratory, go back and hang a right that will take to up. The snow is sweet and avy hazzard is considerable. It is supposed to warm up and precip next weekend so hazzard will spike.

The zones around Kimberley are a little harder to find than most places. Great place to ride, but you almost need to have someone that knows where they are going. You could always check out the Lumberton area near Cranbrook. This area is maintained by the .

Both answers are accurate above. Bootleg bowl sees a TON of sun, and has a cornice the size of a house on top (Last I was up there, 1.5 months ago or so).

Another option is the Grey Creek pass. There is terrain up there, but be aware of avy conditions. As for ease of use for a group of newer sledders? Lumberton out of Cranbrook. Groomed trails and the whole lot.

If you want easy and close you can head up Mathew Creek as well. Follow the tracks, they will take you up the backside of the ski hill. Lots of fun to be had in the cut blocks up there. And it is close to town. Easy road riding too for the newbies in the group. Grey Creek is fun but a long long road ride in.

unless you have a radio , don't use this road, especialy if you are towing a trailer. There is active log hauling

Good point I forgot they were hauling out of there this year. It is a pretty tight road and you would have some pissed off loggers if you don't have a radio. Meachem creek and Hellroring Creek have some good riding too. A back country road book would help.

All of these areas are good, but not exactly "TAME" from a Saskatchewan point of view:D Honestly, if you are not familiar with the areas and don't know your way around or have someone to show you, I would stick to going up Lumberton (Cranbrook Snowmobile Club Area). Kimberley has great riding, but it also has the potential to get you into trouble if you are unfamiliar with the areas...lots of AVY areas etc...

So I have read some great locations, now here is the magic question...!

March 22-25 still ridable or no? I am planning a trip out there on these dates and want to make sure that you guys are still riding that late in march.

Last year our last ride in Lumberton was May 31. Yes that was the exception rather than the rule but the end of March is normally safe in our area.
