I had one of my rigs hit an artesian zone and lost control of it while drilling surface. We literally used the sand that came out of that hole to build a pad big enough to drill three relief wells. This well flow 55m3/min.

The crew was drilling the first section of this well up in the west Shekilie field in NE BC, they hit the water zone at about 44m and were supposed to have the density of the drilling fluid high enough to overbalance the pressure of the water but they didn't and the well kicked and became a fluid blowout. The water was everywhere, the roads were flooded for miles around the rig and to make matters worse it was about -40.

that`s going to take some 2200 kg/m3 cement to get that slowed down.

We drilled 3 relief wells, flowed the water out of two and pumped cement like crazy down the third had three or four twins online. Took a month to kill it, they brought in a specialist to do it.

Up in North Helmut we started gaining @ 18 meters. With only a conductor barrel, we stuffed everything we could down the hole. we were producing 12m3/ minute.
