But who agrees and disagrees with it? As long as we drive trucks and cars it should go ahead IMO. I don't understand all these greenies on tv saying they don't want it. It will create jobs and it will help the economy.

I just don't understand why the rush to give away a raw resource, why not spend the cash on a refinery to process the crude oil, and export a refined product with process fees collected, generate jobs, and sustain canada's oil needs first....just a thought

I couldnt agree more. It would benefit our economy tenfold to refine the products here. Even if the government has to back this financially we would all win in the long run.

What do you do for a living? What does us driving trucks and cars have to do with dilbit being shipped to China?

It isn't being shipped back here.

You are forgetting the idiotic logic,... Hence we sell to other countries for a lower cost, they refine the crude and ship back diesel/gas at a higher rate, and then when there is a fuel shortage we get screwed even more, isn't that what world trade is all about.

The news cast said one of those 209 conditions was for BC to get it's fair share of revenues. Are you bloody kidding me? Why can't BC develop it's own resources? BC is rich in Natural Gas & Oil. When Alberta is all dried up and BC finally develop it's natural resources are they going to share with Alberta?

While we are on this subject. The Federal government should make Quebec develop it's natural resources also. They are sitting on a bonanza but have admitted they don't want to develop because they will lose their "Have not status". What a joke. It's time they started selling their natural resources and paying back to Canada.

It would make a big difference to more then you could imagine. Airlines are filling flights coming all over canada heading to Alberta on an hourly basis. We can supply refineries in the east but we will still need to get our ( Canada's) product to other markets in order to see future growth and employment for thousands of people.

True, but why can't that product be the refined product instead of the raw resource?

They approved the MacKenzie Valley pipeline nearly 40+ years ago. How many pieces of pipe are in the ground today?

First Nations, environmentalists, local governments, regulations, etc.....are still standing in the way among other problems. I don't think in my remaining years, I will see a ship loaded with product.

I am not against the pipeline, as I believe they can build and operate it safely, I'm just being realistic.

Yup I agree. This is my take on the situation. The USA do NOT want our oil & gas going to China. China is a world power. If war ever breaks out with China and the world they won't last long if they don't have oil to run their weapons of war. Besides the USA own most of our resources now. When the USA dries up they will still have Canada's resources to fuel their cause.

Why the rush? Because our govt has no control over the product. Like most of our natural resources, the govt has essentially sold them off to the highest bidder, to try and return the economy to a semi-stable fashion to cover some of their ridiculous spending habits and exorbant salaries. You can't build a refinery because none of the foreign owners will supply you the raw product to refine it. All the pumpjacks are privately owned. You will need a govt owned and controlled oil producer. Same reason BC govt can't build a sawmill and force them to process lumber here. All raw product goes across the border. Nexen bought by CNOC for example. govt couldn't stop it if they wanted to, just put a brave face for as long as possible but it was inevitable. the estimate is that Asia will increase its energy demand in the next 25 yrs, probably around double or triple...or more. This is why we are seeing so much LNG development (Kitimat/Terrace for Shell and Chevron). Shell recently completed the worlds largest LNG ship that will work offshore to be a front runner on the supply end.

Funny how they sold off some land in BC and this story was highly overshadowed by the Gateway approval. hmmmm.....gave away some prime real estate apparently...trade off for anything? funny how that works.

article: Land sale to Kitimat First Nation tied to anticipated LNG windfall

"It's time for economic development," said Clark. "It will be such a big part of creating lots of energy, lots of jobs in the community but it's really a demonstration of the partnerships that we're going to have to have to make LNG and prosperity work in British Columbia."

Also read the part about "fair share" ........ Govt broke = "time for economic development". Can't fill the coffers and be a successfull govt to the voter base (re: re-election!) without labour to pay taxes and drive an economy. Mining is volatile (tumbler ridge), LNG and oil production will be steady for many many years as Asia grows. Everything is for sale when you don't have an economy, its just that you don't want to look like you are giving away the farm on the first round of negotiations......

There are currently two proposed refineries for Kitimat, one involving Clark's ex-husband. The other backed by David Black.

The 209 conditions came out about a year ago, Enbridge has been pumping the media about how they are taking care of them. BC has also said they have an additional 5 conditions that must be met, this is what caused a blowup between Christie Clark and Alison Redford back in 2012. BC is developing their own resources, been to the Peace Country lately? That is where all this LNG is going to be coming from. And no if oil ever really develops in BC I doubt they will share much revenue with Alberta. Why? Because resources in BC aren't landlocked, they have ports.

I am well aware of what is being developed in BC. Worked in NE BC for years. The Oil & Gas produced in NE BC is literally a drop in the bucket compared to what the rest of the province could produced if the paid protesters would go home. Vancouver Island is full of coal bed methane. Off shore BC is full of resources.

BC First Nations spokesperson say Harper has declared war on BC First Nations. Justin Trudeau says pipeline will not happen if he becomes Prime Minister. Why does Trudeau just take the opposite stand of Harpers all the time? Doesn't he have anything original to add to his repetoire?

Hmmmmmmm. Will they ship it through Alberta? Probably not. :headscratch3: Apples to oranges there buddy!

So by your reasoning buddy. If Alberta ship product across BC to it's markets then BC should get a share of the profits then every truck, train or plane that hauls fruit, fish, lumber from BC through Alberta to Eastern Canada should fork over some cash to Alberta. Is that what your saying?

Not arguing with this but do we really need any more gas right now? Prices have plummeted because everyone and their dog is finding gas these days. IMO I would like to see us hoard some of our oil and gas reserves instead of flooding the market. Develop more infrastructure and sell refined/developed products (after our own self sufficiency is met) instead of raw resources.
