What's wrong with a steering chain?

When you have the ability to move forward and are on ice or wet clay, great, but when your stuck in mud, they dont help much, havnt seen to many front wheel drive trucks. I think the key point in the previous post was that he was stuck in the mud and hand not chained up the rear, yet had chained up the steering.

If it’s greasy it may be the only way too get the front back up on the road

Valid point, but from what I’m seeing there’s already one wheel up on a clean solid surface, should be more then enough to steer back onto the road.
Chains belong on the drivers.

Ya, if I have to throw a steering chain I dont really need to be there. I get having to put one on every now and again to get it done but I see some guys will drive 5+ km with them in just to stay in the road. That's not for me.

Lord hates a coward :)

I have ran the occasional steering chain, not the preferred way to travel, If you dont get them tight there is allot of **** that can get ripped off real fast.

so true but I’m with swat. If you need to chain every wheel including the steering wheel it’s time for a head check. Funny fact is the more you do this the easier it becomes. Logging truck guys are not all there to start with, but they don’t let fear or common sense get in the way.
Some things you just can’t teach, you need to scare the crap outa yourself and move forward because the weak won’t survive the hills.
us loggers chain all four tires on everything. Were a little different to lol. Happy New Years truckers!

Steering chains are something you put on so you can get home, not so you can get to the bush. We often times end up 100 km plus up a logging road, 2 -3 hours traveling time one way, weather get a bit warm, then get hit with some freezing rain, **** hits the fan. Instead of being a hero, throw one one the steering, one axle on the truck and one chain on the trailer, much safer ride out.

It is a trucking problem when they are trying drive a semi through the rogers pass in decemeber and its the first time they have seen a snowflake in their life.

Sounds more like a traveler problem.

Your trying to paint these refugees as truckers, they are not. They a immigrants who are taking the first jobs that are offered to them. I would go after the companies before the person.
