Someone mentioned that inlines produce more torque, have less parts etc as the reason they are used in large trucks. While this is true and a factor in their use in large trucks, another reason that posters leave out is the width of a V style engine. A 14+ litre v8 engine is too wide for practicality in a large highway truck.
