I had a 2010 dragon. Thought it was the best sled ever.... and boy was I wrong, 4 engines in 7 weeks. so with this new 850 I really hope they have it right. Who knows maybe they do? I know I am going to watch and listen in the next 2 years what the outcome will be. I bought a non current axys this past September and love it and plan to keep it for now. This sport is getting really expensive and since I am semi-retired I need to spend my pension money very wisely.

2019 engines

Doo - 849cc 82mm x 80.4mm
Poo - 840cc 85mm x 74mm
Cat - 794cc. 85mm x 70mm

Old engines

Doo etec 800 - 799.5cc 82mm x 75.7mm
Polaris 800 HO - 795cc 85mm x 70 mm

Long Stroke 800s seem to be the way of the future.

I believe the reason for the longer stroke has to do with the combustion process. The 85 mm bore with the type of fuel delivery maybe the limit for current technology. I am sure they can go bigger but cant meet emissions. AC old Suzuki had 2 spark plugs per hole for this very reason. For A/C coming out with a 850 I don't see it with them being on the second year for a new 800, not for a few years anyway. I think they are more than capable it just doesn't made economical sense. They tested different engine sizes when they developed the current 800 so i am sure they have data and results, so it would not be like starting from scratch. Personally I see A/C coming out with a turbo or supercharger, that would be the quickest way for market share. Build a boosted engine at 180 ish hp something that will still meet emissions and retain warranty. The big winners would be the elevation crowd but they would still sell for the trail crowd. Of course the cost plays a factor as these sleds are getting pricey and I am seeing more and more people stepping away from new ones or the sport completely. Its a tough business to be in and the next few years will be great for the snowmobile industry.

On a side note I tend to agree with Lund's assessment of longer stroke engines don't normally mix well with high RPM. I am not saying it's a time bomb but don't believe it will have the same longevity as the current 800, I could be wrong only time will tell. Same as the single ring piston nothing wrong with it just not a durable and long lasting.

We'll wtf, that's worse than what VW did in my mind.

I want my 10HP back.
Maybe you should sell that under achiever for a reduced price I think I know a guy?
You tube the dyno runs and you see what he does, he heat soaks the engine until it quits losing power then throws on his y pipe makes 5 hp and calls it good. Most guys won't get that hot to start with and those that do will feel it. Remember this is all corrected hp and there are a lot of factors on one run he's running an AC unit to remove humidity, not says that's bad just not the same as natural air. Dyno tech does do a good job but it is still a dyno. When your at 6500 ft your sled has lost 20 % rule of thumb 3% per 1000 ft of elevation. At 20 % loss your 160 is now 130, is your heat soaked pipe still losing that 10 hp? don't know your dealing with way less volume it could be making more, you would need to dyno at elevation to see how it reacts. I am sure someone has dynoed at higher elevation i just have seen any results. Don't get all caught up in the dyno game (unless you want to sell cheap I know a guy) does your sled perform on the snow the way you expect it to? Is it working right, does it blow belts, does it put a smile on your face when you ride it? That's what counts in my books especially the last one.

Long strok makes torque ans torque maintains track speed

I’m planning on ordering a 850 but definitely keeping both my 16 and 17 turbo 800’s. 4 year warranty sounds good I many don’t need to use it. Mine will get boost after one trip. I like the idea of single ring thick rig and ring lands for boost and proper oil to both sides. If it doesn’t work I will let you know

Yes Polaris will Fix the engine but the value of that sled will be tanked prob worse than they are blowing non current sleds out. Who’s wants a $18k sled to go to under 10 first yr ??
Hopefully they nail it and it’s solid for all the guys biting into 850

850!??? That's cheap

That must be for the broke down 20 km from the truck

I blew the track of my turbo in the monster bowl this year it was only $630 to get it choppered out. Sure glad it let go at bolder as we often ride outa town. We did run into a dead cat this winter at paint he was quoted $4400. I hope these 850s are the cats meow and have a better track record than the old polaris engines and the other 850s on the snow.

You don't forget to quick when you loose a motor first day of a ten day trip and have to rent, and then on top it took three weeks to get sled back..happen to me on the 850 doo this year.. No warrenty replaces bad memories

For 8-9k feet

10-68 Weights (+4 grams from the 2018 800 Pro w/10-64's)

120/320 drive spring (same as the 2018 800 PRO)

155/222 driven spring

Straight 42 helix (+2˚ from 2018 800 PRO)

@ 8250 RPM.... I'm told it has really flat power curve from 8000-8400

Shes gunna be a killer boys, no doubt about it. To spin 68grams at 8000 feet its making some power for sure.

Re: What's thoughts on the Axys 840

Hopefully the New Polaris Patriot Engine will be reliable? I really like what they did with the new A-arms/Spindles and 36" front end.
Polaris Pro's should be awesome in the tight trees now.
The extra 40cc should help out in the power department. Polaris clutches have always been good. 800cc to 840 cc.
Most important thing is to get the power to the snow.

Re: What's thoughts on the Axys 840

Difficult for me to justify the extra $6000 it is going to cost vs a leftover 2018 800.
